Thread: BCS Buster Power Rankings (week six)

  1. Default BCS Buster Power Rankings (week six)

    #3
The Ragin’ Cajuns are now on pace for the first bowl berth in school history… and if they continue to win, they could very well be in the discussion for far more. In his first season as the head coach at Louisiana-Lafayette, Mark Hudspeth has kept up the same momentum that saw his former South Alabama teams gain enough momentum for the school that it will soon be his new team’s conference rival starting in 2012 upon elevation to the FBS.

The school first appeared on the BCS Buster radar when it defeated FIU at the end of September. Then, this weekend, the school went out and defeated five-time Sun Belt champion/co-champion Troy in a resounding announcement of its intentions.

They should have secured their first ten-win season in school history when they travel to Arizona to face the Wildcats in Tucson, only the game against Arkansas State a week earlier a threat against that eventuality. And the Pac-12 cellar dweller might very well be fodder to complete an 11-1 Sun Belt championship season and a discussion in the BCS at-large hunt.

Sorry.. not going to happen. At 11-1 UL will barely be in the top 15.

I'm not talking about UL specifically but he was and he did say "discussion" . . .

They would have to look at the pros and cons of any school with an 11-1 record.

It may be short talk, but all the stellar records will be on the board. . . then off.

For any non AQ school to make it they have to start the season ranked then pretty much run the table.

The entire half of the paragraph that talked about Hud coaching South Alabama was incorrect.

Ever since T-Joe pressure washed Cajun Field, the Slime has not beat UL. . . . I'm just saying.

Fear the Ragin' Cajuns, BE THERE for the pressure washing!

    Well, it depends.

By saying "make it", I am assuming you mean they made it to a BCS bowl game, not necessarily the Championship game.

If it's the former, you do not need to be ranked. You just need all non-AQ schools who were ranked ahead of you early on to lose.

In 2008, Ball State was coming off of a span of years where they only had 1 winning season since 1996(sound familiar?). They were 12-0 and ranked #12 in the BCS poll. They lost the MAC championship game, but even if they had won, they would not have been in a BCS bowl game because Utah and
Boise were both undefeated and ranked #6 and #9.

Had Boise and Utah lost a game and Ball State had won the MAC championship game, Ball State would have played in a BCS bowl game that year.

I think the article highlights that there can only be one BCS buster. That being said we can use all the good pub we get.

As a history teacher, it makes my heart sad that this dude was paid money for such a convoluted, confused, and awkwardly phrased sentence.
