I was hoping that they would be appalled to take a Sun Belt coach but it seems like some fans think otherwise.

Yes I know it is a damn forum but I won't be able to sleep until next February

Yeah. It seems like more than one like him and think that he should be on the short list. Now, the very first poster on a thread about Hud stated that he'll get an interview when they play AZ. You think that he's stating a fact or personal opinion? I hate seeing stuff like this when it seems like the light at the end of the tunnel is near. I don't know why I do this to myself.

It may be just talk, but I don't like it. The part that makes this seem possible is the fact that their AD knows Hud and has hired him before at Miss St. It is ironic though that we play them. Also, there is no way we will know for sure Hud is not going, until they announce who they hire. This just brings about uncertainty for the fans, supporters, players and recruits. It can be a distraction.

Any coach that has success gets this kind of attention. Don't worry about it.

Just my opinion, in list format:

    1) Hud's endgame is the SEC.

    2) he is trying to establish himself as an SEC-worthy coach.

    3) Any coach who jumps ship when they see a sail on the horizon in the FIRST SEASON at their new school ain't doing' it right in the eyes of ADs from big-time schools. Now, if a Big Time program offered...

    4) Arizona ain't a big time school.

    5) Hud's recruiting and contact base is in the southeast, not in the desert.

    6) If he continues to build UL in his first three years, an SEC school (or one as big) will invite him to the big dance. Only an idiot would frick things up before showing the big timers what they can do with a program.

    7) Hud ain't no idiot.

    8) Let's get nervous at the end of NEXT season. Until then, Chillax People! Enjoy the ride.

    9) And by then, we'll find another guy to move our program along. Scott Farmer ain't no dunce either.

Say we finish the year 9-3 or 10-2. The schedule we play year after year is not conducive to winning more than 10 games. I think realistically we can expect at best 8 wins next year, 6-2 in conference. Any other slip up and we are 7-5 and from a AQ conference schools perspective who can sell 7-5 sun belt coach to their fans as being their answer. I know if I was HUD that is what I would be thinking. A couple of 7-5 or 6-6 years and his opportunity to move up the coaching ranks goes out the window.

Don't get me wrong I want to win as many games as possible because this is fun as hell, but if he were to move on after one year I don't think we can sustain any momentum we have gained this year. I hope this is just me being a bigger pessimist than Foote, but I am sure as hell scared.

I'll try a thread redirect here.....

A quote from Hud when he was hired.

"Our football players have no idea what’s in store for them," he said. "We are about to hit the ground running with the best and the hardest offseason they have ever been a part of. We are going to do everything we can to prepare in the offseason by going to the weight room and the early morning workouts. They are going to be preparing to bring a winner to the University of Louisiana.

"I want everybody to understand that we are going to do this together. It doesn’t mean much to you if you don’t have much invested. If our players don’t work hard and they win, they’re glad, but it doesn’t mean much to them. If we win the Sun Belt Conference championship, win the New Orleans Bowl and are in the Top 25, it’s going to mean a lot to them."

Cajun's record 2002-10: 38-56. Bustle's best seasons garnered us six wins (4 out of 9 seasons). Bustle moved us forward Tremendously (i.e. -- we sucked before that).

so, yeah, if Hud wins 8 games in back-to-back seasons (as per your forecast), it will be the first time since... never. Yeah, that will get him attention. The kind of attention that doesn't scream, "look at this opportunist!" From what I hear, Athletic Directors don't like to hire opportunists who split on a second's notice. Now, coaches who lead a team to their first back-to-back seasons of 8+ wins? Yes, they *do* hire that kind of guy. Just sayin'.

I guess you just have to ask yourself, "how smart is my football coach?"

EDIT: I keep hearing about how we don't know how to have a winning culture, but I'm starting to believe that the opposite might be true; there seems to be a lot of people out there who haven't sat through enough Saints, Cajuns, and (*ahem*) Tigers games back in the bad old days when we ALL were really, really bad (Howabout Curly Hallman and Dinardo, RiverRanchResident? Remember when ya'll *suuuuucked*?). Now everybody seems so used to successful Louisiana football that they've forgotten that winning is FUN, and not just another day at the office. And now that the Cajuns are getting in on the action, some people (I am NOT calling anyone out) can't just enjoy it for what it is (victories!). No, the sky is not falling. In fact, things are looking up. ENJOY IT.

Who was the last coach an SEC school hired from a low major? Hud will have to make a jump to a bigger school before the SEC IMO.
