Who was the last coach an SEC school hired from a low major? Hud will have to make a jump to a bigger school before the SEC IMO.

    4) Arizona ain't a big time school.

    5) Hud's recruiting and contact base is in the southeast, not in the desert.

    6) If he continues to build UL in his first three years, an SEC school (or one as big) will invite him to the big dance. Only an idiot would frick things up before showing the big timers what they can do with a program.

    7) Hud ain't no idiot.

    8) Let's get nervous at the end of NEXT season. Until then, Chillax People! Enjoy the ride.

    9) And by then, we'll find another guy to move our program along. Scott Farmer ain't no dunce either.
I'm Chillaxan (the mountain region). I totally agree with the list.

If he is going to go, there is little we could do about it. If it is about money, then maybe there is something we could do but if he left I suspect it isn't about money. And given how little control we have over it, I suggest that we live in the moment and enjoy our wonderful good fortune and BEAT NT.

The MAC has always sent coaches on to bigger and better schools. The Sun Belt does not yet have that reputation. I was surprised Stockstill at Middle Tennessee did not not get a big gig after their good season a few years back. The knock on Stockstill then was that they wanted a "larger sample size". With the young new coaches in the SBC (Cristobal, Freeze and Hudspeath) the footprint is changing. These guys (and the whoever is the new coach at FAU) are looking at the SBC as chance to hone their skills and prove their worth to the big schools. I think athletic directors are now looking to head coaching experience as a prime requirement instead of plucking a coordinator from a successful school. Cristobal, Freeze and Hudspeath get it. They know what these big time ADs want to see on their resume and they are motivated to get it done. Hudspeath is a pioneer. He saw the potential of UL to help him get where he needs to go. He may divert from his plan if he likes Lafayette and wants to stay. If he decides to go, he has provided a road map for the next guy to be as successful . . . and there will be others if we are meticulous and choose wisely.

For those of you stressing about Hud leaving one day, as a previous poster said, chillax.

15 years ago Boise State decided to make a committment to their football program and go D 1-A.

They hired Houston Nutt. After 1 year, Nutt was hired away by Arkansas.

Next, they hired Dirk Koetter. 3 years later, he was hired away by Arizona State.

Next, they hired Dan Hawkins. 5 years later, he was hired away by Colorado.

Next, they hired Chris Petersen. 5 years later, they are projected to play in their 3rd BCS bowl game in 6 years at the Sugar Bowl.

If your school is committed to football excellence, like Boise, quality head coaches will trip over each other trying to be first in line to apply for the job.

WHEN Coach Hud gets his SEC job, it's gonna be like ringing the dinner bell to a pack of wolves.
