GAME NOTES: After snapping the nation's longest losing streak, the UCF Golden Knights will travel to Louisiana to take on the UL Ragin Cajuns at Cajun Field this Saturday in a non-conference tilt. The Golden Knights, who started their season off with two setbacks at South Carolina (24-15) and at USF (31-14), were able to break their 17-game losing skid with a thrilling 23-13 victory over Marshall in front of their home crowd. The last victory for UCF prior to last week was back on October 23, 2003 when it defeated Central Michigan, 31-13. Not only did the victory snap the horrendous streak, but it also gave the Golden Knights their first victory as a member of Conference-USA and their first victory under second year coach George O'Leary. After UCF does battle with ULL, the squad will head home to clash with the Memphis Tigers in a C-USA tilt.

As for the Ragin' Cajuns they opened their 2005 season with a demoralizing 60-3 setback to Texas and followed up with a horrendous loss to Eastern Michigan, 31-10. ULL finally posted a victory with a strong 49-28 victory over Division I-AA Northwestern State on September 17th. Last week the Cajuns were idle, giving the squad ample time to get ready for the Golden Knights. After this weekend's battle with the Knights, ULL will host Florida Atlantic in a Sun Belt Conference showdown. This will be the third meeting between ULL and UCF. In their last encounter back on November 24th in 2001, the Golden Knights dominated the Cajuns, posting a 31-0 victory.

After scoring just a combined 13 points in their first two games, the Ragin' Cajuns offense erupted against lowly Northwestern State for 49 points. ULL dominated the contest from start to finish, racking up 544 total yards, including a whopping 322 yards on the ground. Tyrell Fenroy had a monster game, collecting 163 yards on just 15 carries. It was by far Fenroy's best performance of the season, as the back racked up just 58 combined yards in the first two games of the year. Quarterback Jerry Babb also had an outstanding performance, collecting 43 yards and one score on the ground to go along with his 222 yards and three touchdowns through the air. The three touchdown passes were the first of the season for Babb, who has completed 64.9 percent of his passes in 2005. Benefiting the most from Babb's performance against NWLA was Derrick Smith, who caught five passes for 64 yards and two touchdowns. Smith currently leads the Cajuns with a 16 receptions for 195 yards and two scores.

Despite posting a victory in their last contest, the defensive unit still struggled, yielding 428 yards, including a whopping 244 yards on the ground. Since ULL had trouble stopping the run, NWLA was able to convert 6-of-12 third down attempts and rack up 25 first downs. The rushing yards allowed should be no surprise considering ULL is ranked 115th in the nation against the run (272.7 ypg). The Cajun defense was unable to produce a sack for the third straight game, but the unit did force an amazing six turnovers (five fumbles, one INT). Tre' Green led the Cajuns with eight tackles, while Johnny Felders finished the game with seven stops, a fumble recovery and an interception. Mark Risher, who recorded six tackles against Northwestern State currently leads the Cajuns with 22 stops on the year.

Wow! Check out their game prediction: they called it Knights 24-20. I' d say that was pretty close. I think I'll give them a call about some stock investments... ;>)
