Parking shouldn't be a problem at UL game tonight
Parking may get tight for Ragin' Cajun fans heading to today's University of Louisiana game against Central Florida at Cajun Field, as hundreds of cars belonging to evacuees already are in the nearby Cajundome and Convention Center lots.
But, that shouldn't be much of a problem, said UL sports information staff and city officials.
"It worked fine for the first game, and we'll follow that same protocol - we didn't have any problems then, and we don't anticipate any this week," said Kenny Alford with UL sports information.
Overflow from the Cajundome normally goes to Blackham Coliseum, but that's not an option as the Red Cross had set up a disaster assistance center after evacuees' pets were shipped off to Shreveport before Hurricane Rita, said UL Sports Information Director Daryl Cetnar.
There should be plenty of parking spaces throughout Cajun Field and the surrounding streets near the stadium, said Lafayette Police Department spokesman Cpl. Mark Francis.
"We have the field and we'll be extending the parking area on the west side of the stadium. Parking is always tight, that's just indicative of Lafayette, but the best thing to do is come early and guarantee yourself a spot," he said.
