LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) - An attorney has told the Lafayette Parish School Board that non-board members will not be permitted to vote as members of a committee formed to recommend finalists in the system's search for a new superintendent.
The Advertiser reports Hammonds & Sills Attorneys At Law, a firm specializing in education law, notified Superintendent Burnell Lemoine the non-board members could actively review applications, participate in questioning of the applicants and express opinions with regard to the various applicants. The law firm says the non-board members would not be allowed to vote as members of the committee to reduce the number of applicants or to select Lemoine's successor.
Lemoine's contract ends Dec. 31, and he plans to retire.
