Open dates during college football seasons can come at times both good and bad.

Then, there's those times that an open date is a blessing.

That's the situation for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun squad, which is off from competition this weekend and doesn't have major planning changes with the approach of Hurricane Rita.

"For once, it worked out," said Cajun coach Rickey Bustle, who canceled his team's final practice of the week Thursday afternoon.

The university officially closed at 12:30 p.m. Thursday.

The squad doesn't return to action until Saturday, Oct. 1.

"With school closing, our kids having families headed different places or wanting them to go and help, it wasn't worth all that," Bustle said.
