I read in the paper the other day that Greg Davis expects the Cajundome to be closed for at least 30-60 days after the evacuees leave. That is the time it will take to sanitize & fix mechanical problems with the dome.

I guess we will see. After Rita passes, will evacuees be allowed back into the Cajundome?

    Blackham Needs Your Help!

Dear Ragin’ Cajun Fans, Volunteers and Supporters,

Since the Ragin' Cajuns Men's Basketball Team will be playing in Blackham Coliseum this fall, a Blackham Clean-Up Day has been organized. This project was initiated by the students, but they are asking for the help of fans in the community as well.

This Saturday, October 8th, from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m., come out and help get Blackham Coliseum ready for basketball season. Volunteers will be painting, pressure washing, and cleaning the facilities, in hopes to improve the appearance of Blackham. Please come and donate any time that you can throughout the day – and help the students restore Blackham to what it used to be.

If you have any questions, you can e-mail upc@louisiana.edu or call 482-6939. If you are unavailable to assist us on Saturday, please assist us by spreading the word to all your friends and contacts.

Many improvements have been made to Blackham recently, but the quick turnaround from hurricane relief center to basketball-ready will take some extra help. The University Maintenance Department has been doing their part and now others can assist.

Thanks for your assistance in this worthwhile project.

UL Basketball Blackham Colisum Work Day

    Hi everyone,

Sorry for the last minute notice, but it has come to my attention that many students and some memebers of the community will be working in Blackham Coliseum starting at 9:00 am tomorrow. The majority of the work will be painting, however there may be some other different types of things to do. The Coliseum has a long way to go before the first tip off on November 10th. So, hopefully tomorrow we will go a long way to getting stuff done. Thanks for your support.

This event is being sponsored by the UPC. So if any of you are interested in volunteering simply show up tomorrow the supplies are already provided. We'd love to see you out there.

Back in Blackham. Our Home away from Dome.

I can't go either. Not enough time to plan schedule.

We got the email yesterday afternoon, I didn't even have a chance to get on the radio to let people know.

Before this morning only about 30 people had seen this thread.

I thought FEMA was supposed to get Balckham in shape since they are monopolizing the Dome and forcig the team to play at Blackham. Now we have last minute calls for volunteers to clean it up?

    Dog gonnit!!!!

I've been waiting for this, haven't heard anything, then I find out about it too late!!!

Let's have another Blackham workday, let everyone know 2 weeks ahead of time, then make the place look just like 1972!!!!!

  10. Default UL students pitch in to clean Blackham

LOUISIANA La. - Blackham Coliseum got the first part of a much-needed face-lift Saturday, as University of Louisiana student volunteers washed bleachers, swept the floors and started re-painting stairs and bleachers.

The repairs are to get Blackham back in shape to host basketball games for the Ragin' Cajun men's and women's teams while the Cajundome continues to host evacuees from areas hit by hurricanes Rita and Katrina.

"If we have to play here, we want it to look nice. It was much needed anyway so it's a good way to get the place back up," said Dennis Dent, one of a handful of volunteers from Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity. "It'll be nice, kind of a retro-throwback night for basketball games."

A revamp effort had been planned for a while but definite notice that the Cajun basketball teams would be using Blackham called for more immediate action, since the teams get started in less than a month, said University Programs Council Spirit Chairman Kyle Kellner.

"There's still a lot of stuff to be done, but this was definitely needed. Hopefully, it'll cause the students to have more pride in the venue, in the team and really express that at the games, however many we have here," he said.

    The rest of the story.

Wow, great idea. I really hope someone will pass this along to the UL marketing department. That would bring in tons of people.
