Slappy, thanks for the updates. It looks like you might have a say in what happens with seating or you know who does so let me throw this out there. If blackham seats 6,000 and all the fire marshall lets in is 6,000 you could still add more bleachers/seats to the floor to get fans closer to the action. you would just rope off the top one or two sections at the top or perhaps a few rows at the ends of the stadium where the worst seats in the house would be. I also don't think it's a good idea to not put bleachers behind the team benches, especially the visitors bench. Having bleachers behind the visitors bench (like at the Cajundome) gives us students a chance to heckle the players.

We have worked hard to get a good student section, and we have gotten a pretty decent location. Students have three sections, it is A,B,and C, and section C is directly behind the visitor bench. A and B arent that that far either, depending how high up you are. There will also be the endzone seats. So, heckling seats will be there for people to mess with the other team. It is just with the new configuration of the colisuem, the space directlly behind the benches may have to be used for some press, electrical wires, tables for water jugs for the teams, extra seats for team personel, etc. The teams still need a certain amount of space, as well as aisle ways. Trust me, I and everyone one in charge of this effort is trying to do all they can for the students' needs and everyone elses. As for the fire codes and whatnot, some chairs at the top which were broken may be covered, allowing for more seats to be put on the floor. Exact numbers are not known, but we are trying to get as many seats as possible for the fans.

Thanks everyone for your support. Geaux Cajuns!

and that poor priest who kept his hands to his ears due to the crowd noise. He would occassionally lift his hands, only to clamp them back on his ears.

But yes the court will have seats around it
Do you think we can put some of that "green sawdust" around the court like we did back in the 60's????

(I think the sawdust was used to keep the dust down from the dirt floor......pretty creative & cheap)

You do realize that the floor is cement now?
Or do you just enjoy green sawdust?

I'm just remembering the old days. My Dad started taking me to see the "bulldogs" in 1965. He would use the games as a reward for good grades.

Too bad they (Fire Marshall) is going to limit the crowd size. When we could put 7,8,9000 fans in the place it was something to behold!! That is something you probably will not experience.
Then you probably remember the confrontations when Mike Green played at Tech and there were standing room only games there. I remember the Bayou Classic when we whipped up on Long Beach State and eventually were ranked 4th in the nation by AP and UPI.

That's when the rest of the state of Louisiana decided we were doing to much and wanted to put us back on the farm. In my opinion, that was the major beginning of "Let's keep USL, in it's place", and it's still going on today.

I have heard so many stories of the "Glory Days" of UL basketball. Let's just hope this season, with all the talent we have, we wil have some games, and hopefully an impressive season, to remember. Can't wait for the exhibition game Nov. 10th. And can't wait to see the Cajuns back in the Coliseum.

    Geaux Cajuns!

  9. UL Basketball Gettin' ready for BLACKHAM-BALL!!

I attended the annual "Yell Like Hell" on Wed. night (I'm in the band) and it got me so excited and ready for basketball in Blackham! There were roughly 600-700 people there for the pep-rally... and it was really loud. I can imagine the loudness when there are close to 3,000 fans in the stands!! I've heard so many stories of when the likes of Bo Lamar graced the court and how outrageously awesome those games were. I can't wait to see history repeat itself!!!!

I think we will get 4k avg minimum. If people are still remember what we did in the first round against the other UL, then closer to 5k. If we do as good as we should, I'd say towards the end of the season (maybe even earlier) 6k easily. Here's to a stellar basketball season.

    God Bless
