Are you a fan of setting up the pass with the run. Are you a fan of setting up the run with the pass. Or do you have another idea?

I like to see a team come out and try to establish the run first. If you can have some success running early on, it sets up opportunites in the passing game. It's a little harder to set up the run with passing. I guess it all depends on the game plan that the opposing defense comes in with. If they come out after the opening kickoff and immediately start bringing the safeties in tight to support the run, it might be necessary to use the passing game to loosen things up.Originally Posted by gridiron

However if you have a well established reputation of running first to set up the pass, I think you can catch some defenses off guard by passing first early and often.
Still I would think this should be a seldom used tactic, just enough to keep the opposing defensive coordinator guessing. "Is it my turn?"

I believe in using running plays, then using play-action passes to burn defenses that cheat up. Its how I run my offense on Ncaa 2006. I also use alot of short passes which keeps the defense up close. Eventually the are ripe to be picked on with the deep pass.
The run should always set up the pass in my opinion because when people start putting 8 men in the box it makes it a lot easier to hit an open receiver. BUT I like a balance on offense so the defense doesn't know what is coming next. I also look at short passes like swing passes or short drags almost the same as I do running plays because they set up bigger plays downfield.
If you do the same thing every game it comes down to talent vs talent, execution vs execution. SOMETIMES the coach needs to throw the opponent a curve, and help his own team for goodness sake.
run for fun, throw to go..
All I have to say is this:
Babb to Sampy for 6
Babb to Chery for 6
Babb to Sampy for 6
Babb to Sampy for 6
Run.....Run....Run.....Run.....
Babb to Chery for 6
Cajuns win 35-0
