Can somebody tell me what will happen if we break the rules and don't put "lafayette" in the endzones?

Will the Chief of Name Police bend Dr. Authement over his knee and give him a spanking?

Seriously what could they do to us? My guess would be not a damn thing! Although that spanking sure would be interesting.

My guess would be more along the lines of getting funds cut. Also, i think painting the "lafayette" green on a green field is better than everything else.

There was a time when I would have agreed with your statement. I still agree that it is more important to put a good product on the field and start winning games. However, we continually hear the "university policy" on what we should or shouldn't be called; then they turn around and start proliferating "Lafayette". Hey, I agree its a great place to be and live; but if our own officials continue to display/use "Lafayette", then its going to be a much longer road to becoming recognized as the "University of Louisiana". A lot of folks on this board have been living with this issue for over 20 years now. So I can see how its easy to get would up about it.

In the past month two people I know called us Lafayette and they thought they were correct. If the policy makers can't see the result they are blind.

Such comments are quite silly.

The discussion on this forum does not affect the play on the field one single iota. Talk about the name and other issues that you might think are silly will not make the team play any worse and talk about the X's and O's will not make them play any better. That's what these forums are for: for people to talk about whatever they want to regarding UL athletics. If you don't like it, don't click on the discussion. You can go be Paul Bryant in another thread.

The University of Lousiana followed by where you are located is one thing. . .

But when Lafayette is the singular focus I have a problem.

We are getting mroe and more entrenched nationally, statewide, and even within our own conference as Louisiana-Lafayette. Only in Lafayette (sometimes) and in this forum and the Delphi forum are we Louisiana. This mixed messages given by the athletic department and the university are creating this and it is time to be consistent about who we are.

If you look in the back of the media guide, the section that talks about proper reference to the university's name is titled "Its Louisiana-Lafayette!"

That doesn't look like a mixed message to me, it looks like the wrong message!

According to the law, Lafayette only needs to be included if "University of" precedes Louisiana.

I think I agree 100%. Now I don't think we should be wiping "lafayette" off of our our official university logos but if we were to just put "LOUISIANA" in the endzones I can guarantee you no one will be cutting our funding.
