UL's golf squad is off to a very solid start in the still-young 2011-12 season, with three straight top-three finishes in its first three fall events.

The most recent of those ended Tuesday when UL finished third in the Wolfpack Intercollegiate hosted by North Carolina State. The Cajuns finished with an 866 score over the Lonnie Poole Golf Club, finishing behind only Memphis (861) and UNC Greensboro (863) in the 16-team field.

UL had two top-five individual finishes, with senior captain Philipp Fendt finishing third overall at even-par 213 and newcomer Chris Weninger one more shot back and tied for fourth at 214.

"We were in the final group for the third straight event," said UL coach Theo Sliman, "so that says something for the consistency we've been playing at.
