    DENTON, Texas-The Ragin’ Cajuns golf team recorded its first top ten finish of the fall season, tying for seventh at the Cobb/Ferrell Mean Green Classic in Denton, Texas. Louisiana was lead by freshman Mark Brockhurst who finished tied for ninth with a score of four over par.

    UL finished with combined team score of 889 (301-290-298) for the tournament. The 298 final round score tied tournament champion Sam Houston State and Arkansas State for the low round of the day. The Cajuns were 25-over par for the tournament, which put the team just 13 shots off the lead.

    Individually for the Cajuns, Brockhurst registered his first collegiate top-10 finish, tying for nine with a score of 220 for the tournament.

    Despite carding a final round 78, sophomore Michael Smith finished 20th, marking his first top-25 appearance of the year.

    Rounding out the Cajuns results were, Morgan Landry (T-29), B.C. Thibeaux (T-42), Spence Girouard (T-57) and Justin Lowe (T-74).

  2. UL Golf Ragin' Cajuns Set to Start Spring Golf Season


      The Ragin' Cajuns golf team will start the spring season at the Rice Invitational.

    Missouri City, Texas-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team is set to kick off the spring season of the 2005-06 golf season at the Rice Invitational at the Willowisp Country Club in Missouri City, Texas.

    The Cajuns are looking to continue the success they had at the conclusion of the 2004-05 season. UL finished the Sun Belt Conference Tournament in second place, just one stroke behind South Alabama.

    The Rice Invitational will be played at Willowisp Country Club. The course is 6,700 yards and is a par-70. The tournament format will be 36-holes on Monday, Feb. 6 and 18-holes on Tuesday, Feb. 7.

    UL will join tournament host, Rice, Colorado State, Louisiana-Monroe, Louisiana Tech, Miami (Ohio), Pacific, Richmond, Sam Houston State, Santa Clara, Stephen F. Austin, Tulane, UNC-Greensboro and UT-San Antonio in the tournament.

    The Cajuns will enter the spring relying on their youth. Hitting the links for the Cajuns at the Rice Invitational will be sophomores Michael Smith, Morgan Landry, Justin Lowe and B.C. Thibeaux, III, and freshman Mark Brockhurst.

    Smith was the most consistent Cajun during the fall season. The sophomore from Lafayette posted a 72.6 stroke average in the fall and led the team with five sub-par performances.

    Landry posted the second best fall for the Cajuns. He had a 74.3 stroke average, and had the lowest round by a Cajuns golfer during the fall, a 68 at the Missouri Bluffs Intercollegiate.

    Lowe enters the spring season coming off of a freshman campaign that ended with a all-conference performance in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament.

    The final sophomore will be Thibeaux. The Lafayette native played in three tournaments for the Cajuns in the fall finishing the season with a 76.2 stroke average.

    Brockhurst finished the fall season third on the team in stroke average. The freshman was consistent, posting a 75.1 stroke average in three tournaments.

  3. UL Golf Ragin' Cajuns in Sixth After Day 1 of Rice Intercollegiate


     
    MISSOURI CITY, Texas - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team finished day one of the Rice Intercollegiate in sixth place.

    The Cajuns finished the day with a two-round team score of 603, 10-strokes back of Santa Clara for the lead in the tournament.

    Colorado State finished the day in second place with tournament host Rice in third place, five strokes back of the lead.

    Texas-San Antonio and Richmond finished two stroke ahead of the Cajuns in a tie for fourth place.

    Sophomore B.C. Thibeaux, III, led all Cajuns with his two round total of 148 (70-78). Thibeaux eight over par performance places the Lafayette native in a tie for ninth place.

    Sophomore Morgan Landry and freshman Mark Brockhurst were two strokes behind Thibeaux in a tie for 18th place. Landry was consistent shooting two rounds of 75. On the other hand, Brockhurst shot an opening round 80, but rebounded in the afternoon session, shooting an even par 70.

    Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were sophomores Justin Lowe and Michael Smith. Lowe had rounds of 78 and 77 to finish the day in a tie for 44th at 155. Smith struggled in the first two rounds, carding an 83 and an 81 to finish in a tie for 70th.

    The Cajuns will conclude play in the Rice Intercollegiate on Tuesday, Feb. 7 at the Willowisp Country Club in Missouri City, Texas.

  4. UL Golf Ragin' Cajuns finish Fifth at Guadalajara Intercollegiate


    GUADALAJARA, Mexico - The University of Louisiana golf team makes its second spring appearance of the season and its first international appearance in three years today and Monday when the Ragin' Cajuns take part in the Club de Golf Santa Anita/North Texas Classic Tournament here.

    The tournament is hosted by UNT and features an 11-team field that will play 36 holes today and a final 18-hole round Monday over the 6,884-yard par-72 Club de Golf layout.

  5. UL Golf Michael Smith tied for First in Guadalajara Intercollegiate


    GUADALAJARA, Mexico-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team is currently in fifth place at the Guadalajara Intercollegiate thanks to sophomore Michael Smith. Smith carded rounds of 69 and 70 to tie for first place at five under par.

    Smith is tied with Bobby Hutcherson of Texas State for first place.

    Smith's first round score of 69 ties his lowest score of the year. He carded a second round score of 69 at the Battle on the Bend on Nov. 8, 2005.

    For the year, the sophomore from Lafayette has a 73.5 stroke average with seven sub-par rounds.

    The Ragin' Cajuns are currently in fifth place with a score of 587, just nine strokes out of first place. Houston, Indiana and Southeastern Louisiana are currently tied for first place at two over par, while Texas State is in fourth place.

    For the Cajuns, Justin Lowe and Mark Brockhurst are also in the top-20 finishing the day tied for 18th and tied for 20th respectively.

    Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns are B.C. Thibeaux and Morgan Landry. Thibeaux finished tied for 33rd, while Landry placed 42nd.

    The Ragin' Cajuns will conclude play at the Guadalajara Intercollegiate on Monday, Feb. 20 at the Club De Golf.

      After finishing day one in first place Michael Smith still led the Cajuns, finishing the tournament in sixth place.

    GUADALJARA, Mexico - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team concluded the Guadalajara Intercollegiate finishing the tournament in fifth place.

    The Cajuns shot a final round 296 as a team to place fifth overall in the tournament. UL finished 18 strokes off of the leader Houston. Indiana finished in second place, just one stroke ahead of Southeastern Louisiana. Texas State finished in fourth place, just four strokes ahead of the Cajuns.

    Leading the way for the Cajuns was Michael Smith. The sophomore from Lafayette shot even par for the tournament to place sixth. Smith, who was tied for first after the first two rounds of the tournament, shot a five over-par 77 to finish the tournament six strokes out of first place.

    Mark Brockhurst finished the tournament in the top-20 for the Cajuns. He carded a final round 73 to finish 19th overall.

    Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Justin Lowe, Morgan Landry and B.C. Thibeaux, III. The trio all finished the tournament at 13 over par to tie for 29th.

    The Cajuns will travel to Houston to compete in the All-American Intercollegiate on Monday, Feb. 27 and Tuesday, Feb. 28. The tournament, which is hosted by Houston, will be held at the Tradition at Cypress Wood.

  7. UL Golf Ragin' Cajuns Tied for Fifth After Day 1 of All-American Intercollegiate


    HOUSTON-Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns golf team finished the first day of the All-American Intercollegiate in fifth place. Sophomore Justin Lowe led the way for the Cajuns finishing the day in a tie for tenth.

    The Cajuns finished the day with a two round score of 587, just 11 strokes over par. UL is currently 21-strokes off the lead in the tournament.

    Tournament host Houston is in the lead in the tournament at 10-under par. Colorado is in second place at 3-under par. The two schools were the only schools who recorded sub-par performances.

    Kansas and Memphis were third and fourth respectively just a couple of strokes under the Cajuns.

    Lowe finished the day at even par to pace the Cajuns. The Pineville, La., native finished the day at even par with a two round score of 144. In the first round of the tournament, Lowe carded a one-over par 73. In the afternoon, the sophomore finished the round with a one-under par, 71, to finish the day in a tie for tenth.

    Joining Lowe towards the top of the leaderboard was Michael Smith. The sophomore from Lafayette finished the day in a tie for 14th. Smith finished the day at one over par.

    Rounding out the scoring for the Cajuns were Morgan Landry, Mark Brockhurst B.C. Thibeaux, III. Landry finished the day in a tie for 25th, while Brockhurst finished the day tied for 38th. Thibeaux finished in a tie for 50th to round out the scoring for the Cajuns.

    The Ragin' Cajuns will conclude play in the All-American Intercollegiate on Tuesday at the Tradition at Cypresswood in Houston.
