Head coach Rickey Bustle saw plenty of things Saturday night that his University of Louisiana football team needs to improve.

So did his players, who got a first-hand look at one of the nation's best collegiate units during the 60-3 loss to Texas. But all was not doom and gloom, despite the lopsided season-opening score.

"Practice is one thing," said quarterback Jerry Babb, "but you really can't simulate game situations. We can go from this, take care of our mistakes and move on."

"We had a lot of missed tackles and a lot of mental errors," said cornerback Michael Adams. "Once we can get that all taken care of, we're going to be all right."

"Obviously, we have some things to work on," Bustle said, "but I did see a whole lot of positives. We played a lot of young kids and gave them a chance to get their feet wet, and our defense did make some plays. I thought we moved the ball a little better, a little more consistently, as the game went on."

The Cajuns returned to practice Sunday night, the first day-after-game session in their new game-week schedule that features workouts on Sunday and Monday as the NCAA-mandated day off.
