It is great to see that the Administration is also looking to build a second weight room! Doubling the size of the existing 6500 sqft weight room will be much more expensive than if they were to build a huge metal building and fill it with weights!

Adding one section onto the indoor practice facility would have been nice, I just do not think the room was there.

ps That land on the back side of the track off of South College would have been great for a huge weight room!

Does anyone know what this property is going to be used for? Is it owned by the University? I saw that it had been cleared out...

With that said i know that he was working with an extremely limited staff and restrictive red tape around every corner. This is a great opportunity for Big Rob and his family, and I personally wish him nothing but the best at Tulane and any future endeavors that he pursues.

Thank you Big Rob, you Big Ol' Sucka

Coach Phillips has done a tremendous job at UL and he will be missed. I'm a bit disappointed with the news because I've worked with him on the suppliment fund and spoke to him about 10 days ago about the program. UL did match the money, unfortunately he is heading to Tulane regardless of the offer. I wish Coach Phillips the best of luck, he is one of the best.

I have not talked to rob personally since this was announced to see where his head is, but i do know that just matching salary does not put him or the program in a better place. The university needs to be committed to putting more funds into staff of the strength program if they hope to hold on to qualified coaches. Im sorry but 2 Strength Coaches for 400 student athletes will wear on anyone. Many schools have 1 trainer/GA per every 2 athletes, but many times Rob was working alone with 20-30 athletes at a time. This not only hurts the coach, but it also hurts the program because the athletes can not get the individual attention that they should be getting. Programs had to be drawn up on a group basis instead of on an individual are position basis.

I believe that Rod did an excellent job based on what he was given. Sometimes matching money alone is not enough, and in this case I think that he is going to a place that may allow him to advance further in his professional career as well as improve his family life.

I cannot, nor will I ever, hold something against a man simply because he is trying to better himself!
