Ragin' Cajuns Ragin Station vs ESPN3 Video

Not sure how many of you tried to watch the game on-line using the Ragin Station feed. I watched the first half on Ragin Station. I liked the voice over with Jay and Steve; but the video feed was very frustrating! The spinning wheel of death is out of control!!! It comes on between plays, then the video feed doesn't start until right before the snap - - IF it starts on time. Point being you can't see the play develop from the line-up, and several plays were missed entirely. During the Masson interception, the camera was focused on the student side crowd the ENTIRE play! Very frustrating presentation!

After half-time I switched to the ESPN3 feed. Night and day difference. It was the Cox broadcast, so it was just like watching any other live broadcast. Much easier to follow the game, in-game interviews (even though I obviously missed some good ones).

I like having the ability to watch events via Ragin Station; but it seems as though they haven't learned much since last year.

Bottom line. If the ESPN feed is available, that is what I will use in the future.

    Your comments?

Remember the money goes to UL. I'm subscribed to raginstation. I wasn't aware of the ESPN3 feed.

What we see on Ragin Station is what is being fed to the scoreboard. To provide a seperate feed just for Ragin Station is going to require a totally different approach. Probably more hardware, definitely more people, and a change in priorities. At this stage it is pretty obvious the priority is to provide the scoreboard info and the all important advertising spots. This isn't an issue with the other sports because they aren't trying to feed to a video scoreboard.

Might be a good question for Scott Farmer though. He might not be familiar with the issue.

There should be a way to do both. I've had the same issues with missed plays in all sports I've watched on RS. Commercials are part of a "free service", and I wouldn't have a beef if this was the case with RS, but you actually pay for the RS service. I'm all about donating to the university, which I do, but I didn't consider RS a donation.

Shof, I had the same experience. I missed half of the game. A relative notified me of espn3, which was all the difference in the world. I fought this last year and always thought it was my internet feed. No more.

The video you see on RS is in fact "piped" in from the scoreboard feed. It is the same for basketball, although I think football is done by third party and basketball is done by Cajundome employees. I know in the past I have watched both, and sometimes replays were shown that caused you to miss live plays. It is not espn, abc or cbs, but when you can't make it to the game, it is better to have visual with audio, even if it is not up to par.
