Wish we had an option 3.
Going back to when it was Masson or McGuire . . .
When you feel you have two equal quarterbacks "in practice" and one can only be a QB while the other can do all kinds of other things, it is tempting to play the straight QB and get Mr. Everything on the field as well. No lost talent is the concept.
However, with McGuire only getting one touch on offense and one tackle on special teams, I would have him ready every week as option #3
My concern is that after seeing every play of all 3 games, I haven't seen QB play that can get us thru a successful season. Our offense was just not fun to watch last night.
Maybe "option 3" is the answer? Brad...be ready...just in case!
I was talking to a former player during the game...and HE brought up Brad. He said..."You know...the thing about Brad is that he just WINS."
Neither is a great Passer, but Mason was not good at all last night. This game should have been over very early with all the wide open passes that were missed by Masson. Some of his throws were just wayyyy off. Hopefully the QB position improves, because things are going to get bad in a hurry in the Sunbelt if someone doesn't step up. I say go with Gautier against FIU. FIU is no joke. 3-0 with wins against Louisville (Big East) and UCF (CUSA).
It's amazing how deeply some of you dislike Blaine (for reasons that has to lie outside of football)... After going 13 of 26 against the #9 team in the nation, the call went out for Masson. After Masson had a terrible game against Kent State and Blaine came in and goes 2 of 2 passing and rushing for almost 8 yes. per carry, the excuses come out (ex. the field was wet) well Blaine played on the same field.. Now last night Chris gets the start on a dry field, bombs and Blaine comes in and once again produces scores, going 3-4 with a TD and rushing for over 6 yes. per carry and here you go asking for another QB!!!!!! Man!!!!! Why don't you go out and get the job done ??????
There is a reson that Brad was moved to FB and he's doing a great job in that position... Im sure if the coaches felt that he was the missing link at the QB position they'd play him there...
For so many people who say that they have faith and believe in Hud, they're sure not willing to except his decisions when it comes to Blaine..... Just win #17 !!!!!!
Gautier has played this best all season long. Best QB we have ever? No. But he does move the team and we are 2-1. His play does need to improve but I would say just about the whole offense (qb's, line, and wr's) needs to improve. If we all believe Coach Hud is a great coach, then why are we wondering why McGuire is playing FB instead of QB?
It's not about not liking Blaine, everyone I know loves his effot and grit. But what we see is two qb's who are not comfortable in this offense. Blaine is the better playmaker and gives us the best shot to win IMO. Having said that, neither qb has played well enough to win a game for us. That is what we need next week, a qb to step up and take over a game. We need the offense to fire on all 8 cylinders not 4 or 6 like we have been seeing. FIU it too good to beat with just the D and special teams outscoring the offense.
Blaine IMO has established himself as the starter, but he has to be much better in the short to intermediate passing game. I think he will get there, but we need him to get there this week and I'm not sure he will in time for FIU. This is the biggest game of the schedule, a win here would set the tone for the rest of the season.
Blaine has done what he needed to do as qb/playmaker to EARN the job and it will make this offense better.
