It's an ideal duel, a microcosm of the competition at dozens of spots on the field as Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns prepare for the 2005 football season.
Senior defensive end Eugene Kwarteng is the one with the cold stare that will freeze you in your tracks, an articulate native of Ghana who majors in visual arts and has been a regular on the Sun Belt Conference Commissioner's List and Honor Roll.
The chiseled defender also holds team weight room records of 355 pounds in the power clean (summer, 2004) and vertical leap (39.5 inches, 2003), and is focused on a breakout final campaign to add to his career 66 tackles.
Cox is the 6-foot-7, 295-pound offensive tackle who has had "NFL Prospect" stamped on his forehead since he walked on campus two years ago from Nimitz High School in Irving, Texas.
A preseason All-Sun Belt Conference Team member, the rangy lineman with the quick smile is still growing into his role as a dominating presence while moving to right tackle this season.
When Kwarteng and Cox pair up, it's a match that has other Cajuns stopping for a look. It's the perfect game within a game.
"We have a points system for a little healthy competition," Kwarteng said. "If he blocks me, he gets the point. If I get past him, I get the point.
"So far, he's beating me. In the process, we both get better."
