Thread: Special Teams Play

    Default Special Teams Play

Two things I'm curious about how things went with the special teams last night:

What is it about kickoffs in the college game that makes kicking the ball so different than kicking in high school? Our kickers all had good careers as kickers in high school but struggle getting the ball to the end zone in a college stadium. Is there something different about the mechanics of kicking in college ball?

And both teams last night were using the swinging gate formation on PAT kicks... Why? What advantage do you get from that formation vs. just lining up and kicking the ball? Does anybody try anything other than shifting into the kicking formation?

I think the swinging gate, just gives opponents something to think about, plus you have more options for a fake if you need.

Not absolutely sure but I think there is a difference in the height of the tees.

When we needed a long kick off the most....right after the safety stover had his best. Kickin out of puddles too

Yes but then late when trying to hold on to the lead and we needed to pin them deep after the last FG he kicked it out of bounds giving them very good field position. Fortunately the D came through once again.
