  1. UL Baseball Ragin' Cajuns close in on Fall Ball World Series

LOUISIANA La. - The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun baseball team will hold its final fall practice as a group today.

Beginning at 5:30 p.m., the squad will be divided into two groups, and those units will spend the weekend preparing for the annual Red-White Fall World Series that begins Monday at Moore Field.

The seven seniors on the Cajun squad, already divided into two units, will draft the from the remainder of the UL roster this evening to determine teams for the best-of-seven series that begins Monday at 6 p.m.

"We normally learn a lot from the World Series," said UL head coach Tony Robichaux, "but we probably learn just as much from how the teams are drafted. It lets us see how the players see things. We tell them from the start that the draft is important and that the fall workouts earn you the right to be drafted."

Pitcher Jeff Martinez and outfielders John McCarthy and Alex Preciado will head up the White team. Pitcher Brandt Sanders, outfielder Josh Landry and infielder Jameson Parker lead the Red team, with senior transfer pitcher Cody LeBlanc's slot to be determined by a coin flip. Those groups will, in turn, draft their underclassmen teammates.

    Default Fall World Series

Where can I go to get a roster for the games. I haven't even seen a box score on the Universities Web site or in the local fish wrap.

    P.S.

I have been to both games so far and it looks like we will be solid on offense. We have a lot of young excellent talent, and it looks like our overall team speed is the best it has been in years.

Pitching is another story. Moody looked fantastic. Also, there is a Gros that pitched last night and he looks a lot like Andy Gros. Are they related? There was a freshman left hander that pitched on Monday night and he had excellen stuff. Another Andy Gros look alike. Lucroy looks great as does Parker and Landry. Tatford looks like his ankle is injured and he is not swinging the bat well.

I know it is very early, but we should make another run at the regionals this year if the young guys can stay focused and the pitching matures.

I won't be able to make any of the other games. Can anyone scan one and put it on this site? That would be great.

  10. UL Baseball Vermilion Win Series 4-1 with 8-1 finale

The Vermilion Team used strong pitching to power past the White Team.

UL LAFAYETTE - Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns baseball team concluded their annual Fall World Series as the Red Team won game five, 8-1, on Sunday, Nov. 13 at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field. The Red Team won the series 4-1.

The Red Team used a combination of excellent pitching and some clutch hitting to roll past the White Team.

Red's pitchers combined for just one run - unearned - on eight hits.

Buddy Glass earned the win for the Red Team allowing just one run in 3.0 innings of work.

After a rain delay, T.J. Gros entered the game and worked 4.0 scoreless innings striking out two while walking a pair.

Danny Farquhar entered the game in relief and pitched the final two innings. He faced nine batters, allowing only one hit striking out two.

A trio of hitters led the way for the Red Team. Parker Jameson, Josh Landry and Jefferies Tatford all had three hits for the Red Team.

Tatford was the only one of the three with an extra base hit. He ripped his second homerun of the series in the fifth inning. Tatford finished the afternoon with 3-for-4 with four RBI and two runs scored.

The Red Team was the first to scratch the scoreboard. In the top of the third, a pair of singles by Cody Martin and Parker gave the Red Team their first runner in scoring position of the day. Landry singled to first and a fielding error by White's first baseman Matt Casbon allowed the runners to advance, scoring Martin.

White answered in the bottom of the inning. After a single by John McCarthy, Will Long reached base on a throwing error by Matt Hicks advancing McCarthy to third. A ground ball by Devon Bourque was enough to plate McCarthy and knot the score at one apiece.

In the top of the fourth inning, Tatford was hit by a pitch to start the inning. A single up the middle by Hicks, advanced Tatford to third with no one out. A sacrifice fly my Grant Derouen to right field gave Red a 2-1 lead.

Just before the first batter of the bottom of the fourth inning, the game was halted due to a one hour and five minute rain delay.

The Red Team added some insurance runs in the fifth inning. Parker and Landry both singled to give Red a pair of baserunners. A fly ball moved Parker to third. Tatford stepped to the plate with two on and two out. With a full count, he lifted a ball over the right field fence to give the Red team a 5-1 advantage.

In the seventh inning, the Red Team used a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly to plate two more runners and stretch the lead to 7-1.

Red added a run in the top of the ninth inning. Hicks hit his second sacrifice fly of the afternoon.

Red wins the 2005 Red-White World Series 4-1.
