LOUISIANA La. - The 2005 University of Louisiana football season will be officially underway this weekend as players report to campus on Sunday. The Cajuns’ first practice is scheduled for Monday at 2:30 p.m.
The entire squad will check in Sunday, including 24 scholarship freshmen who are reporting for the first time. Players will have administrative meetings followed by physicals at 2:15 p.m. The team hits the practice field for Monday's workout in shorts and helmets with newcomers at 2:30 p.m. joined by the varsity at 3:30 p.m. UL-Lafayette's first practice in full pads is Friday, Aug. 12.
Two-a-day practices will begin Saturday, Aug. 13 at 8 a.m. for the morning session and 3:30 p.m. for the afternoon session. All practices are open to the public.
The Cajuns will hold three scrimmages prior to the first game of the season. The scrimmages will be held Wednesday, Aug. 17 at 3:30 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 20 at 1:30 p.m. and Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 3:30 p.m. Scrimmages are usually held at Cajun Field.
UL will start the season on the road at Texas on September 3 and will play Northwestern State on Sept. 17 in the Fifth Annual Herbert Heymann Football Classic to open the Cajun’s home schedule.
Fan Day
The University of Louisiana will hold its annual Fall Sports Fan Day on Sunday, Aug. 14 from 6-7 p.m. at Cajun Field. Admission is free, and fans are invited to join the Cajuns for autographs, photos and fun.
Head coach Rickey Bustle and the entire Cajun football team, as well as head volleyball coach Amy Kraljev, head soccer coach Scot Wieland and head cross country coach Lance Veazey will be on hand. Free posters will be distributed and concessions will be available. Fans are encouraged to enter Cajun Field through the tunnel.
