  1. UL Softball The Girls of Summer Blast their way to Gold

Four current Lady Cajuns are on the Blast Gold team

Blast Gold sweeps to AFA title

BEAUMONT -- Winning all 11 games it played in the week-long tournament, Blast Gold won the American Fastpitch Association 18-and-under national championship Sunday at Ford Park.

Cody Trahan, a senior at Little Cypress-Mauriceville, was named most valuable pitcher for the tournament after striking out 12 batters and giving up just two hits in an 8-0 run-rule win over Dallas' Texas Tomboys in the title game.

Blast Gold catcher Jessica Lemoine, a former Bridge City star now at Louisiana-Lafayette, was named most valuable player for the 130-team tournament.

More excitement! Of the eleven players on the Blast team, eight (8) will be in Ragin Cajun uniforms in the fall. Also, the Cajun Peppers (coached by Lacy Prejean) were in that AFA National Tournament. They tried for fifth place out of 128 teams. There are 3 UL recruits on the Peppers team. WOW! Go Cajuns!
    .
So, what does that tell us? Since this was a 18U National Tournament, there are going to be a lot of good, YOUNG players on the Cajun team for 2006. And won't they be EXCITING to watch!

Everyone must know the trials and tribulations that Turbine goes through to bring us the latest pics and news!! In obtaining these pics of the "LADY CAJUN BASKETBALL COURT PICS, Turbine was locked "IN" Long Gym. That is right having gained entry like any common man, Turbine was LOCKED IN!!! After making attemps to find an unlocked door, Super Turbine started calling for a mere common folk bystander(UL Student, UL admirer driving on campus taking in the beauty, or a UL faculty member/coach) to come assist him in his release!! And who came to his rescue other than Coach Steff who was also in the building at the time( so Turbine was not locked in  )!!!

Coach and Turbine talked and he was released ! Way to go coach Steff.

  8. UL Softball UL's Lemoine leads national title club

Louisiana's Lady Cajuns are well-armed to continue the school's tradition of softball success, if last week's AFA National Championship in Beaumont is any indication.

The Beaumont Blast Gold 18-U squad, laced with current and future Lady Cajun players, captured that event with a perfect 11-0 record.

The Blast outscored opponents 60-11 and out-hit the opposition by an impressive 98-25 margin.

Jessica Lemoine, who will step into the catcher's spot vacated by 2005 senior Joy Webre when the Lady Cajuns resume play next spring, was named the tournament MVP. Lemoine specialized in cutting down stolen base attempts, as well as picking off runners in crucial situations.

Pitcher Amanda Hill, who will debut with UL this year, posted a spotless 4-0 record with a 1.05 ERA during the competition. She earned six of the team's 11 victories.

Joining Lemoine as 2005 Cajuns who excelled for the Blast were Deserea Griffin, Karli Hubbard and Heather Warren.

Newcomers to the program, along with Hill, include Melissa Verde, Meagan Godwin and Brittany Hilton.

Verde batted .500 during the tournament, going 18-for-36 with eight doubles, a triple, a home run and eight walks.

Griffin, who showed promise as an infielder for UL in 2005, was next at .432 and a tournament-best 16 RBIs.

Lafayette native Hubbard came in with 11 RBIs and a .343 average.

Godwin had eight RBI, a pair of doubles and two triples. She had a critical two-run hit against the California Running Rebels.
