Thread: NFL: If you're scared say you're scared:

  1. UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: NFL: If you're scared say you're scared:

So you are describing the US Congress. Yea, they fit your discription. I have been totally fustrated by them, and in fact many of my fellow citizens. Yet, never have I decided it is ok to become Swiss, take my savings and go to a country that is always working to not make enemies.

I will say this. I respect your right to abandon totally incompetent administrations. I am not of that family. I will work to save my family, every member of the family regardless of their decision to screw things up. Sometimes tough love is needed. Sometimes you tell the alcoholic no, I won't help you until you take up your share of the work. Still I will help the family. The players are the family, perhaps the president was the alcoholic. I will back the family, and now we have a president who can take a sip of wine without getting bombed. Yes you can have both academics and athletics.

Just saying that may be why you get so much greif, not that your view of how things were is not correct.

But I was never part of the family to begin with. I was simply an interested member of the community, pulling for things to be straightened out, but having to stay on the sidelines until I knew my personal contributions wouldn't be made in vein. That is just good business. Now I have an investment & am vested & would & will do my part to make ceratin that this program continues in the right direction. If that means rabble rousing & drum beating at the irritation of those who love the status quo no mattder how low the bar is set, then once again I will be a bad guy. What I won't do is allow something that I am emotionally invested in to be trashed by those who are short-sighted & incompetent without a hell of a fight.

I also won't let others who have been incompetent lead me astray to where I would hate another fellow citizen's enjoyment of their program (which for all intents is not competitive with this one), to the point that I would not even greet them with the time of day on the street. I would tend to think that for the most part these people make up a HUGE potential source of previously unmined support both emotionally & financially for my program, which would make me want to reach a hand out to them so that any time they would like to climb on board my train, whether for entertainment purposes or because they feel the calling to support, they are welcome. I certainly would not treat them in a manner in which I would not like being treated for having pride in my program.

I buy into you Kyle, and this means Yes it is OK for all who contribute be it money, or personal time to vent hell on the administration, and decision makers but not the players. They bought into whatever our coaches were doing.

I am looking to a future with a Swamp having a new East upper deck with about 8000 more seats, some nice suites, & much bigger concession facilities with another big ticket office. I am also looking for a bunch of mean defensive hombres led by our Breaux Bridge boy. Oh yes. I am already predicting future greatness for Tyren Alexander. Anybody care to go on record & correct me on this. I predict he & Lightfoot will make UL football an extremely violent affair in the future.

Right now you have 8 correct picks to his 6. The Texans will not win the AFC...you can take that to the bank. I doubt the Saints will be able to win on the road, in the elements, much less win two in a row on the road.

So I think you have this thing won Waldo. I guess Kyle misread his NFL prognostication gauges.

Everyone keeps saying that the Saints can't win on the road. The Saints have been under Sean Payton a very good road team. This is the first year including the Superbowl year that they went undefeated at home. Remember Packers did not play a home game last year. The Saints have a very good running game with 2 backs that are from the North and have played very cold games. Saints have just a good a chance as anyone.

    All this arguing is ridiculous....

Any of the 6 teams left in the NFC can represent the conference in the super bowl. I would argue Atlanta doesn't have a shot... but I don't want to go out on that limb. I can see the Giants getting hot and making a run with their stellar D.

The fact that Saints fans have penciled in a win against Detroit already is troubling. Didn't they do the same thing last year? Oh yeah.. thats right this is a different team. yada yada yada..

You play to win the game.

It's winning on the road...in the playoffs. That is one thing the Saints have never done. Never. Even last year against a 7-9 squad that, let me be the first to say, had no business having a home playoff game. They could not win. So they have been to the playoffs 8 times, this year will mark the 9th season they made the playoffs.

1987 lost at home to Vikings.
1990 lost on the road to Bears.
1991 lost at home to Falcons.
1992 lost at home to Eagles.
2000 won at home to Rams, lost on the road to Vikings.
2006 won at home to Eagles, lost on the road to Bears.
2009 won at home to Cardinals, won at home to Vikings.
2010 lost on the road to Seahawks.

    Home record in playoffs 4-3
    Road record in playodds 0-4

The odds point to home playoff games being a 60-40 split between winning and losing and road playoff games being a 100% loss. They will have to win twice possibly on the road to get to the Super Bowl...odds are that won't happen.

I agree with most of what you said, but how does what fans say, or have penciled in, have any impact whatsoever with the outcome of a game?

I completely understand the odds, but every year's team is different than the last. There's far too much turnover year to year to say that any team is affected by its past when it comes to putting it on the field (at least by the entire history of the franchise. Last year would obviously have slightly more credence.) The 11 Saints team in last year's situation likely wins. Not down to 4th and 5th string RB's and deep down the chart on a few defensive positions. But again, that's all speculation. Odds dont determine winners otherwise teams would never win the SB from the 6 seed. Also, when the Saints had never won a playoff game, I'm sure there were plenty saying the odds were with the defending SB champ Rams favor in that game. Bottom line, whoever gets on a roll and plays their best ball will likely take it. Thankfully, the games actually get played.

Basically I dont think history dictates outcomes in the NFL, especially when you look at the fact that the Saints won a Super Bowl. Trends only matter in a current season, IMO.
