Louisiana (4-2) was won four straight matches at Earl K. Long Gym - a streak that dates back to last season. UL has won 12 of the last 14 matches, overall, at E.K. Long Gym.
The Ragin' Cajuns opened the home portion of their 2011 schedule last weekend with victories in straight sets over Texas Southern and Mississippi Valley in the Bon Temps Invitational.
After playing in a pair of weekend tournaments to open the 2011 season, Lamar stands at 1-5 overall. The Cardinals have lost four straight matches, falling in straight sets each time.
Tuesday's match marks the 47th meeting all-time between the two schools and first in Earl K. Long Gym since 2006. The Cajuns seek to avenge a 3-1 (25-20, 17-25, 19-25, 14-25) defeat to the Cardinals last season at the Lamar Tournament in Beaumont, Texas.
UL is paced by three players averaging over two kills per set. Senior middle blocker Lesley Mirarchi leads the way at 2.60 per set and is coming off a 19-kill performance during the Bon Temps Invitational in which she accrued a .444 hitting percentage.
Lavinia Tataran appears headed for a stellar sophomore campaign having already posted 41 kills and 52 digs through the first two weekends.
Redshirt sophomore Sierra Whittaker currently leads Lamar in kills, averaging 3.37 per set. Megan Schwartz, who averages 3.33 digs per set, is one of three players averaging over two digs per set for the Cardinals.
MATCH POINTS: Louisiana notched 21 services aces over six sets in the Bon Temps Invitational (3.5 aces per set)...For the season, the Cajuns are averaging 2.2 aces per set (43 aces in 20 sets)...Each match since the season opener vs. Jacksonville State has been decided in straight sets (five consecutive matches)...Following Tuesday's match the Cajuns travel to San Marcos, Texas for the CenturyLink Premier tournament hosted by Texas State...The Cajuns will face Houston Baptist, New Mexico State, Northwestern State and Texas State in San Marcos.
