Thread: The Swamps Future

  1. Louisiana Campus The Swamps Future

The big ragoo has seen plans for a 3 story "football only" building which would be located on Reinhardt Drive. When entering Reinhardt from Cajundome Blvd it would be on your right when you come to the first curve. It would encompass almost the entire grassy area from the tunnel to the parking lot and house locker room, coaches offices, meeting rooms, equipment room, and players lounge. That would be nice and aid in recruiting, but I really would like to see the Cajuns build something like Arkansas State or Arkansas has in their end zone area. Texas Tech and Texas A&M are currently building similar structures. The building would encompass the entire end zone area. Suites, Hall of Fame, offices, locker room, equipment room, meeting rooms, training rooms, weight room could all be housed here. I would envision it being 4-6 stories depending on how much of the end zone you wanted to occupy. You could have a lot of the suggestions that people have offered regarding alumni meeting areas and banquet halls, as well as numerous suites or covered type seating (like Arkansas State) there. Suites should be able to pay for themselves and bring in quite a bit of revenue each season. That would offset some of your cost.

    .
    Just my imagination

In addition to-or as part of-what you mentioned, I would like to see the Tunnel enclosed all the way to the dressing/weight rooms.

The Swamp is far more impressive from the field looking up, than from the road looking at. When you walk onto Cajun Field from the tunnel it looks impressive far beyond the overall size of the stadium.

Enclosing the tunnel all the way to the dressing/weight rooms would create a great “TaDa” effect. As it is now when the recruit sees Cajun Field from the road all they see is the upper deck, this lowers expectations. However when he walks out of the dressing room area, looks at the sky and walks down the tunnel, it sort of prepares him mentally for what he might see.

Now if the tunnel was covered and the first thing the recruit sees at the tunnel edge is the lower and upper deck it is would be surprisingly cool. This is because it is unexpected. When you go to most stadiums the field is ground level so you automatically have a good gauge of what the interior looks like.

An enclosed Tunnel that becomes a Walk of Fame would be a great recruiting tool.

As I said once before. It would take a turf field, but I think practicing at The Swamp would be special for the players. It would give the players the same advantage that coach Jessie Evans always talks about. Getting used to home court.

By home court I mean getting use to the exact curvature of the field. The curvature at the Swamp and the practice field is close but not exact. Also the depth perception that comes with playing in a stadium would feel natural.

And here is what would be special, "Game Day" with the same field but the stands full of people. I think this combination of comfy-field and rowdy stands would give the Cajuns a home field advantage enjoyed by few.

The 3 story structure above is based off of Oklahoma State's new Endzone.

Unlike OSU this design leaves room for a complete bowl seating confiuration. It does however extend right to the cusp of the levee.

The impression on recruits who see the (below sea level) Swamp for the first time when exiting the tunnel is awesome as they have no idea how big Cajun Field is from the raod.

I think those effects are overrated. It especially would be in football. Practicing on the home field would help the marching band more than the football team.

  4. UL Football sweeeeeeeeet

    Turbine,

That picture is sweeeeeeeeet. That's what the big ragoo is talking about. The big ragoo has the idea of what things look like in his head and it's like Turbine uses his spy satelite to steal brain waves from the big ragoo and get all of his henchmen working on photographic images, 3d overlays, maps, etc.

The big ragoo loves it. What about some Nexturf in Cajun Field, can you slap a picture of that on there for the big ragoo?

    UL Football It's awsome baby!

That picture is worth 10,000 words. Where do I sign up. I'll give up beer for the next 6 months and send the money to help build this complex. Where did this picture come from?????

  8. UL Football Awesome is right

    Turbine you da man!

The big ragoo will give up beer money as well for something like that.

How do we get donations rolling on something like that? Didn't some of these other schools pass referendums or something like that to raise the money for these projects?

Again, the big ragoo says that it's time to put his $$$ where his big fat mouth is and get it going on these things.

    Ragoo,
To our disappointment, the UL system does not allow us to pass referendums for athletics. Dr. A and student organizations are working to hopefully reverse this in the near future.

Who do I pay to start the funding for this project? By the way, great design. I wish something like that would really happen at UL.
