Thread: We still have a long way to go locally to get this town pro UL

Default We still have a long way to go locally to get this town pro UL

Went to Walkon's last night to watch the game.

First sign of trouble was when I asked the guy in charge of the TV's if they are going to play the UL game.
Then he says yes we are playing the LSU game.
I said no, not the LSU game, im talking about the UL game.

He almost acted like he never even heard of UL.
He then said he did not even know if it was on TV.

Finally after him doing several mins of searching he found the UL game on the program guide.

They put the Cajuns on all the main screens including the big projector screen and piped in the audio through the big sound system.

Everything was going well and then 7:00 happened.

I dont think I have to tell anyone what happened at 7:00PM.

All of a sudden the sound from the sound system was removed, and 80% of all the TV's including the big set went to purple and gold.

Now this is not a Walkon's bash thread.

Because I just read another post in another thread about Pete's doing the exact same thing.
I almost went to Pete's last night, but got talked out of it.
If what the other poster said about what happened at Pete's really happened that place has really gone down the drain in many more ways then just the food/service, and cleanliness.

How can a place like Pete's do that?

I should have known to expect a place like Walkon's to pull a stunt like that.
Heck, the place was started by two LSU basketball players. What do you expect.

    But Pete's!

    Come on man.

I remember when Preston owned Pete's it was top flight, but the place has turned into a garbage dump with people who do not have a clue of the wants of there customers.

A typical day at pete's is seeing 75% of the customers wearing UL gear.
Its the only thing thats keeping them in business.
Then you are going slap 3 out of 4 people who eat at that dump in the face and put on LSU.
They keep this up and they will have a for sale sign on there smelly door that almost knocks you out from the smell when you walk in the dump.

I admit Pete's has gone downhill a lot in the last 12 years.
Its the only reason I got talked out of going there last night.
But the very last thing I expected to hear from Pete's was UL getting secondary treatment to LSU.

This was the only thing keeping Pete's in business the last 10 years.

Believe me, I had full intentions of going to Pete's last night. Only reason I did not was because I got outvoted 5 to 1.

But after hearing what they did, im glad I got outvoted.

At least at Walkon's I got a decent meal in a place that did not require me to have to take a shower when I got home to get the stink out.

This is all things I was willing to put up with as long as they put UL 1st.
But if they are going to pull the same act as Walkon's I have absolutely no other reason to go there.

The next great sportsbar that comes to Lafayette will be the 1st one.

There is not a single sportsbar in lafayette that has a clue how to operate.

When you show up a Sportsbar at 5PM and have to tell the manager that the Cajuns are playing, and have to tell them which channel they are on, that shows me a total lack of knowledge to your customer base.

Walkon's had 50 tv's running at 5PM yesterday with about 25 college football games being played.

I show up there, and they had exactly 1 live college football game playing when I got there.

They had 2 baseball game playing, they had a college football game from 2 years ago on, and 1 live college football game on on opening weekend of college football.

    Can you be anymore clueless?

I remember when Preston Guidrey owned Pete's, he had all the TV's on all the important games. You did not have to go up to him to tell him what games to play.

He knew what was important to watch, and what was not important.

That was the last real sportsbar in Lafayette.

You're kidding yourself if you really think Walk-Ons cares about UL

    That place is a joke

I had the same experience at Walk-Ons last night. I knew there was going to be purple and gold but when theyput ALL the tv's on the LSU game at 7 and played their fight song I nearly lost my meal that I just ate. I had to ask the waitress if she could turn a tv back to UL and she said "I'm not sure, I'll see what I can do." Pretty upsetting that their is not one bar around that you can't go to and the main game is the local college.

This thread is more about Pete's then Walkon's
The point is, in the past I sacrificed food quality and service to go to Pete's because they catered to UL.

But since they no longer do that, Pete's is forcing me to judge them on the things that I overlooked in the past.

Since they now give UL the same treatment as Walkon's does this forces me to judge Pete's food and service to Walkon's food and service.

    Pete's loses that battle.

    RIP PETE'S

And I let you talk me into going out to begin with by letting you sell me that the UL/ OSU game was being blacked out. I DVR'd just to make sure I could watch the replay if it was on & when I got home guess what. There it was big as day. I have a unique situation. I have two big screen Sonys & surround sound in the house. I could have had the UL game on the bigger one & let LSU play on the other one while listening to BOP on the radio & lounging in my comfortable sofa. Could have switched out @ breaks & not taken any chances on the law messing with me on the way home. BUT NOOOOOOO! Why don't you come correct & tell these fine people about the desert for three adults you ate last night?

I give Walk On's a pass. Their management may know how to run a restaurant, but they are pretty clueless when it comes to managing the best TV equipment in town. They have along way to go to get the Saturday football thing right. Hope they do better on Sundays.

BTW, the ratio of UL/OSU to LSU/ Oregon TVs was more like 50/50 than 80/20. Every other TV was UL/OSU. They did change the big one to LSU/ Oregon though.

BWK, before you get all excited I did the same exact thing you did.
I set my DVR to record the game.
There is only one problem with what you just said.
    It was blacked out.
Just because it showed up on the channel guide does not mean you were able to watch it.

    So do me a favor.

    Do what I just did.

Go to your recording and press play on your recorded game.

You will get a message that says the program did not record because it was blacked out in your area.

    Give it try.
    You will see.

It was not playing on DTV in lafayette.

Dude, did you even read the thread?
    Seriously.
The thread was more a bash on Pete's then Walkon's.

    I just said Walkon's>Petes

Wrong Buckaroo! I got the whole thing on DVR. Why don't you come watch the replay with me & we can break down the individual performances. Bring a 16 piece from Popeye's with Family Red Beans & Onion Rings & bisquits when you come.

    I recorded channel 617.
    Which channel did you record.
    Did you test your recording?

Did you actually see the picture on the screen from your recording?

It shows that I recorded the game, but when I press play it does not work

Yes I did test it. Yes I did go through & fast forward the game to a few certain poits I wanted to see already. The whole thing is on for posterity's sake or until The next thing I feel is too important to ever erase has to be recorded.

I'm getting too old for the spicy stuff.
