I wonder how many times OSU will score more than 50 points this year. I'm thinking it'll happen a few more times at least. Good thing Wheeden wasn't really "on" tonight! Haha! He had a few really bad throws ...
I agree with you. When it counted, the offense couldn't do anything. That is a concern. However, It's just the first game and we'll see how they come back next week. I'll let others make excuses, I'm just going by what I see on the field and making comments on that. There may be reasons for a poor performance, but while the game is going on, I'm more focused on what our team is doing to win the game.
I'm happy with the outcome. Blaine got the hang of it towards the end of the game (too late, I know). Griffen and Harris look great. Surgent still does his thing on special teams. Bentley is making the plays we need him to make, and our team is overall playing tough football, all four quarters long. We're going in the right direction, this season might not live up to our expectations of the need to win NOW, but we will get there on the foundation being set on this first game.
The same can't be said for North Texas, they just laid an egg.
Ok, Blaine stunk the joint up passing the ball. The drops were caused by a lack of touch from the QB. Swing passes are a touch pass not intended to be thrown 60mph. He was atrocious in the passing game. For those who say Masson couldn't have done better, well he went 20 something for 40 something last year for over 300 yards and 2 TDs and one INT. So yes, he is the better QB, is he a better athlete, no way. But athletes win you games at WR and RB not Quarterback!
I thought Blaine should have started last year, but after tonight, I see why he didn't. For those who are apologizing for his poor performance saying it was his 1st start are wrong, he has started 3 games before this one, so he knows what to expect. He can not read defenses and again his touch sucks. He hung LG out to get hammered in the end zone by holding on to the ball too long. I will be very disappointing if HUD doesn't go with Masson for the Kent St. game. Gautier won't be starting next year either so why not go with who gives you the best shot to win and that person is Masson.
The one thing I saw, even with all the drops is overall we played hard four quarters. I think the pieces will fall into place. Next week will tell us alot more about this team.
This is the worst part about a two quarterback system. You divide the fans (and sometimes the players). We will all take our sides, and remain unmoved.
The extremes of opinions for or against is puzzling to me. Obviously Gautier fits HUD's system more. That likely means more PT for Blaine.
Kent state performance will say it all.
In the meantime, maybe our receivers could catch a ball just for kicks. And maybe our kicker could kick just for kicks...![]()
