Thread: The Hudspeth show:

    Default The Hudspeth show:

I got to go last night & met a crew of top notch class AAAA fans there. Jacob & Crazycajuns, I'm sorry I can't remember all your names , but you guys were a blast to hang with & obviously know your football. I got a feeling this is gonna be a good year for UL football. For the Bustle apologists who think that OSU should automatically be able to score 60+ on UL because after all they are the top ranked offense in America & this is the first year of a new coach & new system. I've got a little tidbit of news for you. These guys didn't do all that running, weight work, & offseason conditioning to roll over & let OSU run up 70 on them.

This is the difference between a winner who isn't going to be looking for excuses & someone who is willing to accept less than the best he & his team can accomplish. While I don't think UL has the playmakers to beat a school like OSU yet, I do absolutely expect them to climb onto OSU's back & bite, kick, scrape, & claw, especially on defense, to make this game a bloody ugly mess. I think in the end OSU's talent & depth help them right their ship, but I will be very disappointed if OSU makes it to 40. My final...... OSU 36 - UL 16.

For any LSU fans lurking, man what was JJ thinking? I had these guys picked to be in the NC game. The reason....... Jordan Jefferson. A shout out to those who are delusional enough to think your OC, best playmaker, starting QB, & one of your starting OL can get whacked & some of them within a week of the first game, & it won't even affect you? I love LSU, but I'm a realist. Oregon will sell out to stop LSU's ground attack. They will then send enough pressure to force Jarret Lee into the pocket & make throws outside the numbers & down field. CAN HE DO IT? I still think this guy has to prove he is a division 1 QB. Saturday night we'll find out.
    My Final........ Oregon 31 - LSU 20

I have never been so ready for the preseason to be over. I can't believe the NFL scheduled teams that play each other during the regular season to play during the preseason. In years past, I can remember watching the Saints show absolutely nothing during the preseason, & be told they were keeping it vanilla, only to find out three weeks into the real deal that there was no other flavor in the freezer. I have never seen a coaching staff work so hard to hide anything as this staff did this year. I think the Saints are going to pull the whole can of whip@$$ out on the Packers this Thursday night.
My Final........ Saints 45 - Green Bay 23

First, you don't need to be a Bustle apologist to think that OSU will score a bunch of points. You need to be a realist. This defense did scratch and claw with them last year and we played with great effort and nearly gave up 60 points at home. The effort was there and so were our players, the problem was that Weeden was able to get settled in the second half and throw the ball up for grabs with Blackmon going up and getting the ball over 2 and 3 defenders who had good coverage. There is something called being overmatched. We also held kendall hunter to one of his lowest rushing totals of the year. This team worked really hard in the offseason but that doesn't automatically guarantee immediate success although I wish it did. I'd love for your score prediction to be correct but I'm fearful that their immense talent advantage will put this game out of reach in the 3rd quarter and I'm more fearful that we give up quite a few more points than you're thinking.

    The Return of the King....

Actually, I often disagree with your posts...and I am one who seems to think this will be a tough season for the Cajuns. However, Hudspeth will change the culture bottom line. If these guys play with the toughness, and swagger that you are predicting, I think maybe we keep this thing respectable, and hopefully interesting.

Good post Kyle. I wont be hugely disappointed if OSU pass 40 since they hit that 8 times last year including against OU and Nebraska. But I do agree that the effort these guys will put on the field will be greater than what we have seen in a long time. The amount of hard work they put in will have its benefits in the long run and possibly Saturday night in the form of a respectable performance vs a top 10.

Liked your discussion with Stevie P this morning. It's good to hear some optimism going into this game. I'm right there with you.

I thought your question was good as well.

Especially since you only had fifteen seconds to ask it

By the way, thanks to all of you who came last night. It was a GREAT atmosphere. And, in the bar area, everyone can hear the show. During the Q&A there were a lot of folks who were nowhere near where we were, but they heard Hud's answers.

We'll be in the studio next week because of the Saints/Green Bay opener. We'll return to walkons on 9/15 before the home opener against Nicholls.
