    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: cajuns up to 21 commitments

Man that's some beef for both lines. The O-Line coming in are over or near 300 pounds! And with Cox and Newman being over 300 that's some serious cheeseburgers come feeding time! Wow having a line averaging over 300 pounds has to be a great feeling for the QB's on this team.

    UL 1984, 1999 . . . . Re: Recruits

Sharrick looks like a man among boys! Verlin shows great awareness of where the defenders are and makes the first one miss, he also does a good job of looking the ball into his hands before taking off.

I wonder if "Jamarr Thompson, OL, 6-8, 330, Evangel-Shreveport, LA" can play basketball?????

I also wonder if coach Bustle can loan some of his recruiters to Coach Lee??

  6. Default Junior college transfers highlight latest verbal commitments.

The recruiting class got bigger, both in numbers and in tonnage, for the University of Louisiana's football squad this week.

The Ragin' Cajuns, aiming toward Wednesday's first day of the spring signing period for the national letter of intent, added a mid-term enrollment from defensive tackle and former East St. John standout Korey Raymond (6-4, 280), who attended East Mississippi Community College the past two fall semesters.

UL also got verbal commitments from two other junior college linemen - defensive end Greg Hathorn (6-3, 260) of East Central (Miss.) College and offensive lineman Damian Jones (6-5, 300) of Copiah-Lincoln (Miss.) Junior College. Both are scheduled to sign this week and enroll in August.

The squad size could get even bigger, with prep offensive lineman Jamarr Thompson (6-8, 330) among a handful of products visiting the campus this weekend. Thompson also played at East St. John before Hurricane Katrina forced his family to relocate, and he played most of his senior year at Class 1A state champion Evangel in Shreveport.

This weekend's group of official visitors is the last for the Cajuns before national signing day. UL has a total of 15 confirmed commitments or mid-term junior college signings, and reportedly will sign as many as a half-dozen other prospects when the signing period opens.

Raymond arrived at UL this week and enrolled in classes for the spring semester on Friday. He was rated in Rivals.com's top 60 junior college prospects this year, and previously signed with Mississippi in December after a Nov. 11 official visit. However, he was ineligible at Ole Miss until August since he was short one core course.

  7. Default Winning helps spark UL-Lafayette recruiting

The University of Louisiana at Lafayette heads into the final weekend of the football recruiting season with the majority of its recruiting class already in place.

Thanks in part to the program’s first winning season in 10 years, a share of a conference championship and the continuation of an ongoing facilities upgrade, the Ragin’ Cajuns coaches have found prospects increasingly receptive to their new sales pitch.

“It’s really easy when you can walk into a home and show them a picture of the ring that you’re giving in March,’’ UL-Lafayette recruiting coordinator Troy Wingerter said.

“Winning a conference championship means a lot, especially coming from where we were to where we are right now.’’

UL-Lafayette, with 21 commitments/junior college signees, will attempt to put the finishing touches on recruiting class with a small group of prospects this weekend — five days away from the Feb. 1 start of the national signing period.

Among the group UL-Lafayette will host will be Evangel offensive lineman Jamarr Thompson, a 6-foot-8, 330-pounder, who is already committed to the Cajuns. Thompson played for East St. John as a junior and began his senior season at the Reserve-based school before evacuating to Shreveport and playing his final year at Class 1A state champion Evangel because of Hurricane Katrina.

Thompson will be joining one of his former high school teammates — Korey Raymond — after the former East St. John standout enrolled at UL-Lafayette this week with plans to go through spring drills with the Cajuns.

Now here is an area of concern. I know that many of you are asking why don't we get local talent. Here is a list that I would love to see us have one or two of, but we are not even on the short list with any of these guys. I know that the coaches are doing a fine job with getting kids here, but could we at least try to get some home grown?:o just pondering. See you all Wednesday and bring your $15

Of course it would be nice to get some of those players but if you noticed there are only 2 schools on that list (Southern Miss and LaTech once each) that we recruit against. It is going to take alot more than 1 winning season before we can start getting those type of recruits. On last season's roster that is now on ragincajuns.com we had 45 Louisiana players and 17 of those from the Acadiana area. Hopefully, if we build it, they (top recruits) will come. For now, like most schools in the SBC, MAC, WAC and to a lesser extent C-USA, our coaches have to find the diamonds in the rough. I would say they have done a pretty good job since Coach Bustle has taken over.
