  2. UL Football Fred Davis made only season of high school football result in offer

The University of Louisiana football squad dipped into Florida - more specifically, the Fort Lauderdale area - once again for its 11th verbal commitment to the 2006 recruiting class.

Linebacker Fred Davis of Ely High in Fort Lauderdale, who played only one year of high school football but made that one year count, gave UL head coach Rickey Bustle a verbal commitment over the weekend.

Davis, a 6-foot-2, 235-pounder, attended Plantation High as a freshman and sophomore but did not play football. He also didn't play as a junior at Ely after transferring.

"I always kind of wanted to play," Davis said, "but I ended up hanging out with the wrong crowd. I had to turn around my life and I figured football was a way to do that."

Davis finished his only season with 76 tackles including 45 solo stops, two sacks, one interception and two forced fumbles for the Tigers of head coach Greg McGirt.

Here is some information that I found about Colin Windsor in the Alvin Sun Advertiser. He was named to the Texas High School Coaches' Association Class 5A Academic All-State 1st Football Team. Windsor ranked second on the team with 65 tackles and led in both QB sacks 6.5 and forced fumbles three, and ranked tied for team highs for tackle for loss with 14, Windsor also caught for 70 yards and 1 touchdown. He was also 2nd team 24-5A defense in Texas

Those are some impressive stats for only playing 1 year. Hopefully this means he has alot of potential and will continue to develope. Nice pickup for the Cajuns.

You can go ahead and add Louis Lee to the list. According to rivals he committed. He is a WR from East St. John. He is 5'10 165 lbs. The film on him is really impressive.

    Also you can add...

OL - John Decoster 6'5 290 Miramer, Florida
DE - Sharrick Moore 6'2 250 Tampa, Florida

Looks like we are hitting Florida pretty hard this year for talent. This all comes off of rivals.

Impressive! Someone noted we are hitting Florida pretty hard this year. We've always gotten players from the Sunshine State, just that some years we only get 1 or 2, and some years we get more. This year, so far, we 've apparently gotten 6 commits from FL. I'm wondering about Texas. So far, we only have 2 from there. Maybe we can snag a few of those big DLs from Houston! That would be a nice capper to the this recruiting season. Of course, Bustle usually pulls in a surprise recruit at the end. I wonder who he'll get this year!

Someone mentioned Toren Dixon earlier. I wonder if he's gonna become a Ragin' Cajun. I sure hope so. We can use all of the quality Louisiana recruits we can get.

Looks like a good crop, but when I checked on Rivals, nearly half of them don't have any stars. And the rest are 2 stars. We don't have any that are 3+ stars. I checked on LA Tech and Toledo just as an example and both have 2 or 3 commits rated as 3 stars and nearly all of the rest as 2 stars. Toledo even has 2 OL as 3 stars! I trust our coaching staff (and I know these rating services are FAR from infallible!), but I don't understand why so many of our commits have zero stars. I thought this year we were going after QUALITY over quantity. Again, not to put down ANY of our commits (they might all turn out to be superior college players), it just seems strange we only have something like six 2 stars while others (even North Texas and Ark. State seem to have many more. Enough with the late night rant! I'm sure Coach Bustle and staff have it going their way. Looking forward to a big night next Wed.!

The star ranking really do not mean much at all. I can go down a list and name you a lot of guys on our current roster who were not rated at all. Jason Cherry and Jesse Newman are the ones that come to mind first though. Rivals is a good site but after signing day anyone who has signed a D-a Scholorship will be come atleast a 2 star recruit.

The guys that we are getting commitments from are good players...the only player that I have seen so far that I was taken aback by was Verlin Moore but I trust the coaching staff.

I think Toren Dixon will end up here...he would be a great pull but I don't know where he will play which is always a good problem to have. He could add to the already deep talent we have at safety are be a big position reciever but will have to wait and see.
