No, he doesn't kick it very far on kickoffs. He will flirt with the goaline, going over occasionally, but nothing special on kickoff power. But he has amazing accuracy. If you want a directional kick, he will land it within 5 yards of the point you want it to land. He does however have a very strong feild goal leg. I say with no pressure, he could land a 57 yarder. That should get a little better as well with more growth and workouts. Regardless, I feel he will be a great replacement for Comiskey.

Yep...I love it when our recruits are 3+ stars on Rivals, but remember, our best player from 2005 (Fenroy) was either not listed or only a 1 star player.

Tyler Albrecht should be on rivals if he already isn't. I go to STM and am a student trainer on the football team and at one point in the year he was 3-3 from 50+ yards. I get to watch him in practice every day and this guy would regurally make 55 yarders. I know that practice is much harder than a game, and college is much harder than hig school, but none the less he has talent. The only question is whether or not he has the mental ability to stay solid, but I feel he does. This guy is going to be good. Take my word for it.

Turbine told me today that Burks had several people from his family that played for LSU and La Tech. Could bring some more Tiger and Tech money into the fold as well as make MORE Cajun fans!!!!!!!! Sounds like he could make a Defensive Lineman with 20 or so more pounds or a Linebacker by losing or replacing 10lbs with muscle.

Tyler is very good and is needed by the Cajuns.
Matt could be a FB or linebacker for the Cajuns and from what I heard from a ULM Pharmacy friend his heart is bigger than he is and his game is even bigger!!

Looks like threee good ones to start!
1) I think with 1000 yard rusher in the back field and Deon Wallace and friends playing next year!
2) the line that returns and the players that got playing time on the line this year or red shirted
3) along with the other young players that saw playing time or red shirted
4) Indoor Practice Facility
5) Weight room to be Doubled in size
6) Many other Facility improvements that Gerald has completed or is working on
WILL ALL HELP IN A BANNER RECRUITING CLASS and ANOTHER WINNING SEASON BOWL GAME and RECORD SETTING CROWDS

I heard this kid came to Lafayette because of the hurricaines. Where did he play at before STM?

11/14/05 - Tyler Albrecht

I just finished reading your 2005 Louisiana Sports, Hurricane Stories. I'd like to give you an update on my son, Tyler Albrecht, who is at St. Thomas More. Tyler is the kicker who was at Holy Cross prior to the Hurricane.

We have returned home to Destrehan, but Tyler has stayed in Lafayette at STM, at least through football season.

Tyler nailed his third 50 yard FG this past weekend against Alexandria in the first round of the playoffs. He is 3 for 3 at 50.

The first one was against St. Martinville with 3 minutes left in the game, STM down 8-6. The 6 points were from Tyler's other 2 attempts. My wife, Juliette, is from St. Martinville. Her grandmother had 12 siblings, they all had big Louisiana Catholic families. She is related to 1/2 the town. Even the anouncer that night at St. Martinville was her cousin!!

Needless to say, the extended family was not too pleased with Tyler's kick to win the game, even the Teche News published an uncharacteristic slight on Tyler...and a little rib on Juliette and I as well for choosing the wrong school to evacuate to. Tyler is living on the bayou in St. Martinville, he comutes to Lafayette daily.

Anyway, it has been quite a ride. St. Thomas More has been an exceptional experience for Tyler, along with fellow evacuees Van Taylor from De La Salle, and the long distance snapper from Shaw, Andrew Lore.

His last SAT was a 25, and his GPA leaving Holy Cross was 4.28. He is hoping for a look from LSU. He is a soccer player at heart, and will probably play for STM if he decides to stay after the Christmas break. Thanks again for the mentions in your magazine.

Speaking of Peanut, does anyone listen to ESPN gamenight on 1420? It seems that he is a regular on that show and is very comical. I think the commentators may be from Chicago.Tonight on my way home, I caught a glimse of his segment. It would be cool to see him get into that after his playing days are over.

The University of Louisiana football squad upped its number of commitments to three Monday when St. Thomas More kicker/punter Tyler Albrecht and Denham Springs center Ian Burks both giving Ragin Cajun coach Rickey Bustle verbal pledges. Albrecht and Burks join Catholic-New Iberia running back/linebacker Matt Desormeaux as Cajun commitments for the 2006 recruiting class. Albrecht hit 12-of-16 field goals and 24-of-25 extra points for the Cougars in their march to the state Class 4A quarterfinals. He also handled kickoff for most of the season before a groin injury slowed him there. It didn't hamper his punting, though. He finished the season with an average of just over 40 yards, and averaged over 50 yards per kick in STM's quarterfinal loss to Bastrop. Ironically, one of his field goal misses came at the end of that game. "That's part of being a kicker," said STM coach Jim Hightower. "I watch them every Sunday miss (NFL) kicks. He was a really key player for us, a clutch performer and very consistent." Albrecht, who joined the Cougar squad following Hurricane Katrina after attending Holy Cross in New Orleans, had a pair of 50-yard field goals during the season, one of them a last-minute game-winner.
