  3. Default Former SEC recruit ahead of schedule rehabbing knee injury

The Southeastern Conference's loss will be Louisiana-Lafayette's and the Sun Belt Conference's gain with the Cajuns' signing of West Jefferson All-Metro linebacker Clarence Fultz.

That's West Jefferson coach Hank Tierney's prediction.

Fultz, 6 feet 3, 220 pounds, had attracted interest from LSU, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Tennessee and Arkansas before his senior year, which ended with a tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee in the regular-season finale. On Wednesday's national signing day, Fultz cast his lot with ULL, choosing the Cajuns over Louisiana-Monroe and Southern Illinois after declining a visit to Southern Mississippi.

"I definitely believe that any time you have a serious knee injury like he did, it makes people re-evaluate a player," Tierney said. "In Clarence's case, we personally think that he's good enough to play anywhere in the country. We think ULL got the steal of the year in the city."

Fultz was 10 weeks removed from successful reconstructive surgery as of Wednesday and is well ahead of schedule in his rehabilitation, Tierney said.

"In today's modern medicine, people come back from that kind of injury all of the time," Tierney said. "I think (the Division I-A majors) are making a mistake. You look at him on film and he's fabulous. He's got the size that they're all looking for and he can run and hit. And ULL is a Division I school. They're in a great conference. They can play in a bowl game. I just think ULL's gain is some SEC school's loss."

So if Fultz has a good career at UL can we look for Tierney to steer some of those "hosses" our way from the Get Geaux?
