Ok DC...Daylon McCoy played for Tatum...we are also recruiting a teammate of his Isiah Thompson who is a 6'4 315 lbs defensive tackle (I think it is between us and Houston for this big tackles services)

During the playoffs this year he had back to back games with interception returns for TD's. The second of the two picks was against Canton and a well respected QB G.J. Kinne.

In 2004 he had 88 tackles and was the first team all district at running back and linebacker. He also finished that season by being All East Texas and recieving 3rd team All-State.

It's not like he doesn't have decades of experience doing it...

The article names 5 of the 12-14 visitors. Does anyone know the names of the other 7-9?

  6. UL Football ROUX: Recruiting, an event all its own

In the world of collegiate athletic recruiting, there's no shortage of stories describing wild parties, rampant misadventures and other forms of debauchery when recruits visit campuses.

It's not that way at the University of Louisiana. At least, as far as Rickey Bustle knows.

The Ragin' Cajun head coach, in fact, makes a point to keep visiting recruits busy, not leaving much time for tomfoolery.

"It's pretty busy," Bustle said. "We only have 48 hours with them and you can never answer all the questions in 48 hours. It's an intense weekend."

It's also the lifeblood of any college athletic team. Successful recruiting turns good coaches into great ones, turns bad programs into good and boosts good teams to exceptional status.

Poor recruiting can lead to diminished success and staff unemployment.

That's why the Cajun football staff puts so much emphasis on its recruiting weekends, especially those that fall just prior to the signing period for national letters of intent. UL wraps up its final full-scale recruiting weekend today, one that brought a dozen or more prospective student-athletes to the campus.

Between Friday afternoon and Sunday morning, the UL staff has to provide an enjoyable visit and a comfort zone for the recruits and a significant number of parents.

"I always tell them you're not picking a school, you're picking a home for the next five years," said UL tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator Troy Wingerter. "We try to impress on them that intangible that all of us feel here, what makes this place special and makes it feel like home."

  7. UL Football ROUX: Unofficial visits offer athletes another option

The student-athletes taking part in the University of Louisiana's recruiting weekend are using what the NCAA calls their "official visit" to the UL campus.
That's not to be confused with "unofficial visits," and there's a world of difference between the two both for the recruits and the schools involved.

Unofficial visits are any visit by a student-athlete, with or without parents or spouses, to a college campus paid for by the student or the parents. The school cannot pay any expenses with the exception of three complimentary admissions (recruit and parents) to a home athletic event.

"They're here totally on their own," said UL assistant athletic director for compliance Kristi Stake of unofficial visits. "They're just like any other student. They can come on the campus and look around, and they can receive admission to games. But we don't pay for anything."

Unofficial visits are unlimited in number, and most recruits use them to attend collegiate games either by invitation of the coaching staff or on their own.

  8. UL Football ROUX: DE Chris Johnson commits to Louisiana

Fontainebleau's Bulldogs only played six football games during the 2005 season due to Hurricane Katrina, but that didn't stop Chris Johnson from garnering notice from college coaches.

The 6-foot-1 1/2, 250-pound defensive end became the 10th verbal commitment to the University of Louisiana's recruiting class this week. Johnson gave Ragin' Cajun head coach Rickey Bustle a pledge following an official visit last weekend.

"I liked the atmosphere, the people, the facilities," said Johnson, who took unofficial visits to Southern Miss and LSU. "I thought it was a great fit for me. I really didn't feel right anyplace else I went."

Johnson, who is academically qualified, is the fifth Louisiana player to commit to the Cajuns and is the fourth defensive player and the first defensive lineman to commit.

Johnson was a three-year starter at defensive end for the Bulldogs and helped lead the squad of coach Larry Favre to the Class 5A state semifinals as a junior before a loss to West Monroe. He had 45 tackles, six sacks and three caused fumbles during that season.
