BATON ROUGE - By the time the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns women's basketball team had completed one of the most memorable seasons in the program's history, their fan base had grown tremendously.
And another reason why the interest in the program is continuing to grow is large in part to the incoming freshmen class that head coach J. Kelley Hall signed.
One of the major keys to that Cajuns recruiting class is former Bishop Sullivan guard Whitney Dunlap, who was one of the best outside shooters in the state this past season.
But fans don't have to wait until the fall to see Dunlap play, being that she will take part in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association All-Star basketball game that will be held tonight at 6 p.m. in the Clark Center at Southern University.
"I am really honored to be playing in this game," Dunlap said. "This is really awesome. I'm getting the opportunity to play with some of the best girls in Louisiana."
Dunlap is currently Bishop Sullivan's boys and girls all-time leading scorer with 2,467 points in her career.
"Accomplishing that was truly an honor for me," Dunlap said. "I can remember back when I was in seventh and eighth grade I would go and watch Bishop Sullivan play because they had a player name Jamie Chicos. She was awesome. I remember hoping that one day I good be as good as her. So it was truly an honor for me."
In her four years as a varsity starter, Dunlap was a four-time All-District first team selection, three-time LHSCA all-state selection, a two-time LHSCA All-State Most Valuable Player and a Louisiana Sports Writers Association first-team All-Stater.
