Thread: Who will be the Cajuns first 1000 yard Rusher?

I'm with you that one guy needs to step up and become the clear starter out of the group but I think that any of them can be a force because they all have strentghs that they could use to explot a defense.

I like to pretend I'm a coach sometimes lol and I would like to see Wallace come in and be used in a role similar to Reggie Bush at USC. Have him play in the slot, at HB, and returning kicks. Then I would use abdule Leveir and Chester Johnson as my primary HB's and Dwight Lindon on short yardage. Then Harrison and Rubin can both be solid 3rd down backs because of their speed but not every down backs because of their size.

Our depth at HB should be used to our advantage because when we are pounding the ball in the 4th quarter and all of a sudden we throw in a fresh back like say Celeb Rubin and all of a sudden you break a 20 yard run because a tired defense won't be able to keep up with him.

I had mentioned Jason Cherry's name because we don't know whether he will be a WR or a HB.

I hear you & like it. Since I haven't seen enough of him, I wonder what abilities Rubin has in the passing game as a 3rd down back. I think Harrison's opportunities are about to pass him by, unless he steps up early. There is just too much competition for playing time for someone with size & abilities.

This may be the very reason why we "might" get to see one of the best performances by a RB to grace Cajun Field in a long time....I believe someone is gonna step up!

Point 1 for a single back: Ricky Williams average 8 yards a carry after 25 carries.

Point 1 against multiple backs: It is awkward for a quarterback to hand off to different backs.

Point 1 for multiple backs: There is a trmendous advantage to the offense if you can hit the defense with the offspeed pitch that various backs can provide.

Point 1 against the single back: If the single back is your reputation, it makes it harder to catch up when you are behind. Multiple backs keep the defense guessing.

This is getting to be a tiresome thread, but I have to disagree with point 1a. Unless you were the '04 Auburn team, for example, you shouldn't have multiple backs with equal ability. If that is what this team has, then that is what we have...I don't have to like it. Believe me, our recruiters would much rather land a premier back, than one to join the pack. Maybe one can step up.

With all those backs no one will get enough carries

Obviously...."with all those backs" the Cajuns are looking for someone to step up...If we had a single viable RB...we wouldn't have "all those backs!"

We have two very "viable" back coming in today. Both of them are freshmen and will have a learning curve. Expect big things from this pair in the next 4 years.
