Krystal Lewallen Transferring to Louisiana

TRANSFER UPDATE: Krystal Lewallen, the Division II Athlete of the Year, who announced earlier this month that she was transferring to either UCLA or Louisiana-Lafayette, visited ULL during the week and reportedly has not yet decided which school she will attend.

Multiple attempts to reach the former Northern Kentucky standout during the week failed.

She has obtained her release from Norse coach Kathy Stewart in hopes of pitching at the highest level of the college game, and has narrowed her choice down to Louisiana and UCLA.

Interesting that her choices have narrowed down to the University of California - Los Angeles and the University of Louisiana - Lafayette. I sure hope she decides to come here and be a Ragin' Cajun!

The Krystal Lewallen countdown has reached a decisive stage for Louisiana's Ragin' Cajuns softball program.

Coach Stefni Lotief expects to hear by the weekend whether Northern Kentucky's NCAA Division II Athlete of the Year will be pitching for the Cajuns or for UCLA in the 2006 campaign.

Lewallen struck out 335 batters, had a 0.36 earned run average and posted 20 shutouts en route to a 32-1 record in the circle for the Norse in 2005, then obtained her release from coach Kathy Stewart in hopes of moving up to a Division I program.

Sources close to UL indicate that members of the Cajun staff talked with Lewallen on Tuesday night and were told a decision would likely be reached by Friday.

Lewallen, who was scheduled to be visited by UCLA coach Sue Enquist on Wednesday, wants to play at the top level of university competition in order to improve the chances of extending her career beyond college.
