I am cracking up at the thread title.

In our family we often use tha phrase, "Yum, yum come get you some." in tribute to our favorite cotton candy vendor at Cajun Field.

It's easy to play well when everyone's on a roll. The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns have proven they can win even when that's not happening. The Cajuns (3-1) suffered through one of their worst shooting halves under fourth-year coach J. Kelley Hall on Sunday, hitting just 20 percent (7-of-35) against visiting Texas-El Paso, but they still clawed their way to a 65-61 double-overtime victory. It was the 18th straight triumph at home for UL, but one of the hardest to attain. "It proves we keep fighting," said forward Yolanda Jones, who suffered through a 6-of-19 shooting effort but finished with 19 pints and 14 rebounds. "Some teams, when they get to overtime, they fall under. Some teams fold. But our momentum got better. At the beginning of the game, I was thinking maybe this would be a loss we could learn from, but we played defense so hard that I felt we really wanted to play." Defense has been a cornerstone for Hall's squads since his arrival in 2002, and it took a spirited defensive effort to keep the Cajuns afloat against UTEP. "At halftime (trailing 22-19), we just said it was a new half, a new game," Jones said. "The more we dwell on it (poor shooting), the more it becomes a problem mentally. I knew I was shooting bad. If the Texas Southern Tigers were going to make a game of it Tuesday night at Earl K. Long Gym, they needed to do so early in the second half against the Louisiana Ragin' Cajun women. Down 42-33 at the break, the visitors were still hovering within single digits. But by the 15:39 mark, UL had fashioned a 10-3 surge for a 52-40 lead and was on its way to a 78-57 triumph to make it 19 straight wins at Long Gym. Junior college transfer Yolanda Jones made sure the Tigers didn't challenge, pouring in 25 points, clearing 14 rebounds, getting five steals and blocking two shots. "Relax? Not me," Jones said with a laugh. "I'm too hyper." "We didn't want them to linger, and then get it down to single digits and have a chance to win late in the game," point guard Ashley Blanche said. "That's what happened on Sunday (a 65-61 double overtime win over Texas-El Paso). "This time we put them away. We took care of our business." Cajun coach J. Kelley Hall was able to give Blanche a relatively easy, 24-minute evening, two days after she set a Long Gym school record with 47 minutes played against UTEP and had a pulled groin to show for her troubles. It was a hell of a lot more fun to be there than to just read about it. If you guys are in Lafayette and don't go to see the games, you are missing out. It is cheap (free for students) hassle free, no parking problems at EKL, and a blast to see the women kick some butt. This is a young group, but I fully expect big things out of them in the next few years.

Sonora Edwards will feel right at home this weekend. Although the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns face road games at 6 p.m. tonight at Prairie View A&M and at 7 p.m. Saturday at Sam Houston State, Edwards will have her fair share of supporters on hand. "I've heard from old classmates and old teachers," said Edwards, who starred at Somerville High School in Snook, Texas. "They've been e-mailing me, telling me they were coming. And I know my family will be there. "It's good to have fans when you go on the road." The weekend trip gives the Cajuns four games this week (Sunday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday) before breaking for semester finals. "I need to study," junior forward Yolanda Jones said. "It's hard to be an athlete and a student. I guess what doesn't kill us only makes us better. That exam break is going to be well-earned." "It's kind of tough, having six games in two weeks," point guard Ashley Blanche said. "When you have school and basketball, you get tired. But you can't think like that.
