Name recognition. Tech has better name recognition nationally than UL does at this point. It's changing, but we're not there yet with being nationally known as the University of Louisiana. This Forbes list has 650 schools on it. I'm curious, just how many schools in existence in the nation DIDN'T make it on to this list? I mean, does being ranked lower than about the top 100 really mean anything? LSU, with all the financial advantages it gets over the rest of us, comes in ranked at #442. That doesn't seem like much to crow about to me. Either this list is not very accurate, or a lot of people in our state are kidding themselves when it comes to how others view the quality of academics at our state's top three public universities.
Obviously someone didn't read the article.
Our annual ranking of the 650 best undergraduate institutions focuses on the things that matter the most to students: quality of teaching, great career prospects, graduation rates and low levels of debt. Unlike other lists, we pointedly ignore ephemeral measures such as school “reputation” and ill-conceived metrics that reward wasteful spending.
You're correct. I didn't read the article. I just looked over the list, but from what you quoted from the article, it looks as if the only reasons none of us ranked any higher than we did are that we lack: 1)quality teaching, 2) great career prospects, 3) good graduation rates, and 4) low debt. It's good to know that, other than those four issues, we've got things well under control in our state's higher education system..
