Ragin' Cajuns men's tennis head coach Mark Jeffrey unveiled the squad's 2011-12 schedule on Thursday and there are a number of marquee matchups on the docket.
During the spring season, Jeffrey has the Ragin' Cajuns slotted to face six teams that were ranked in the 2010-11 ITA final rankings - four of which were in the Top 10.
"Last year we battled a number of ranked teams down to the wire," Jeffrey said. "With everyone back, plus adding three players to the starting lineup, we should feature prominently inside the rankings all year long.
"A top 40 national ranking is our goal for the year as a team. We look forward to the challenges ahead as this schedule is laden with top ranked teams."
The squad will compete in four tournaments during the fall portion of the schedule: Baylor Invitational (Sept. 23-25), All-American Championships in Tulsa, Okla., (Oct. 1-9), Southern Regionals in Auburn, Ala., (Oct. 20-24) and a USTA Futures Event in Pensacola, Fla. (Nov. 4-7).
In Spring 2012, UL will face Baylor (Jan. 20), Texas A&M (Jan. 21), Virginia (Feb. 18) and Kentucky (Feb. 29), all of which finished in the Top 10 last season. The match with Kentucky is set for Cajun Courts.
The Cajuns' first home match of the spring portion takes place Saturday, Feb. 4 against Texas-San Antonio.
UL ventures on an East Coast trip in mid-February for matches against Virginia, VCU and Old Dominion.
Beginning with the Kentucky match on Wednesday, Feb. 29 at Cajun Courts, Louisiana will enjoy eight consecutive home matches through Saturday, April 7.
The regular season wraps up with a road trip to Tulane (April 14) and Southern Miss (April 15). The 2012 Sun Belt Championships will be held in Denton, Texas, April 19-22.
