The NCAA went to a 48-team postseason tournament (eight regionals of six teams) in 1987 and a 64-team postseason tournament in 1999 (sixteen regionals of four teams). If Arizona State defeats Florida tonight, it will mark the sixth time that a non #1 regional seed (1999 -> present) or #3 regional seed or below (1987 -> 1998) has made the final pairing of two in the College World Series. What other schools can claim such a distinction?

This is a total guess without any researching:
LSU A&M
Witchita St.
Stanford
Miami
Rice
One of these is correct, even though the spelling is not.Originally Posted by lxa656

Wichita State was a #3 seed in 1993 and lost to LSU in the CWS championship game. The Shockers went 3-1 in the CWS that year.

OK fine, my next guesses
Even thought I couldve swore that LSU A&M won it one year when they werent a #1, i will go with:
Georgia Tech
Pepperdine
Oklahoma St.
Alabama
Pepperdine is correct. They were a #3 seed in 1992 when they won the national championship.Originally Posted by lxa656
LSU was a #1 seed in all of its national championship years ('91, '93, '96, '97, and '00). LSU has never made the final and not won.

Well i am running out of options!
Cal St Fullerton
Georgia
Florida St
Cal State-Fullerton is correct. They actually performed the feat twice. Once in 1992 as a #3 seed and once last season as the national champion (#2 seed).Originally Posted by lxa656
There is still one more school.

My guess is either 1998 Southern Cal that won it all and either Georgia or Oklahoma State. UGA beat OSU for the title in 1990. If I remember correctly, one of those was a #3 or below.
Southern California was a #1 seed in 1998. In fact, the Trojans were seeded as the #4 team at the CWS in '98.Originally Posted by Rebel02
