Father-Son / Coach-Player relationships

Nelson losing had zero to do his son's participation. Jesse's son had nothing to do with anything, and he left Robert a stocked team. The fact that somethings happen at the same time does not mean there is any correlation. Bustle's son had zero to do with anything. But go ahead argue to argue.

Press Maracich, Wally English are two coaches whose programs didn't survive their sons and probably influenced my thinking.

The turmoil during Jessie Evans tenure makes me think this isn't a good example.

Nelson's career did not extend past Brandon, this is not a knock on Brandon. It's not a knock on Nelson. It has to do with human nature metrics between coaches, sons, players, team.


The reason it often isn't good for a program has more to do mostly with coaches losing some of their drive after the son moves on.

Ok. Jessie's kid finished before Jessie moved on. Jesse had his best teams post junior brat. Stokley, Brandon and was about a spent coach. He's done sonner without Jake and Brandon. Blame Fossil more than anything else.

I merged the recent posts with this thread because it shows me I'm not always right.

My worries don't always come true.

I have had this idea/worry for a long time.

Brad Bustle was a two time all conference lineman. He finished two years before Rickey did.

The younger Evans finished two years before the former.

Robichaux coached two sons. They helped him win championships.

Coach Marlin's son is on the team this year. He, like Gunner, helps run the scout team in practice.

I think it's wonderful that, given all the sacrifices a coach makes, that he gets to go to work and see his son every day.

Especially if his son is either a good player or a non player.

Ok Mr. Know it all, if you were around your boss's son every day of the year, at work, in the shower, for meals, and in your living space, it would have zero effect on your life. Right? You would still speak freely when upset with your boss? You would still express any disagreements you have with the boss man's decisions at the dinner table. Sure you would. You don't even ask the hard questions during interviews. Every member of every team has some effect on the team. The boss's son will always have a different dynamic than the next guy. It's a discussion, you don't always have the final word because of your perceived superior intelligence.

I worked for many years for a man who had not one, but two sons working for him. I never had a problem with the fact they were his sons. I would have had a problem if they weren't good at what they did.

But they were. It affected my life in a positive way because they helped our company be successful....and I was more successful as a result.

Yes, it's a discussion. And sometimes in discussions, we learn things. In this case, we're learning, unless a son is getting preferential treatment (and it did happen once here at UL), it's a non issue.

I do not understand why you're trying to make it one where none exists. That's MY contribution to this discussion.

And discussions can be had without making it personal.

Yeah I think its only a real problem when the child is a prima donna or made out to be one.

ps Brad's let year was 2009, Bustle was gone after 2010.

One more year does not mean you survived past your son.

I'm thinking is much more prevalent problem in little league, travel ball, AAU and even high school. Most guys making 6 figures with a job onthe line won't play little Johnny if it costs the team and potentially his job.
