Thread: UL Cannon a Tradition

  1. Default Re: UL Cannon a Tradition

I for one hope that the cannon does not come back-----BBBBUT here is why---I would hope that the E Zone Hills would be filled with Cajun fans that would prevent the cannon from being deployed----At the Arkansas game they fired off huge fireworks rockets of some kind following scores and I think this could work for us!!!! Just my thoughts !!!

    Look at the tunnel opening.

I would hope the stadium remodel would have a field level cannon nook on the opposite end.

Fireworks doesn't keep the sound in the stadium.

    A rule that says
"no UL home games without a cannon" would be a canon.

Who else in the conference has cannon firings. Doesn't ULM and ASU have them. I certainly don't want them if they have them. Can we come up with another idea of celebrating a TD or Fieldgoal ( when we can make them- little humor there.)
Don't most schools that use a cannon have a Memorial Stadium of some kind. UT is the War Memorial Stadium, so there is a military connection. What was the original connection at USL back then with the stadium and the cannon? Is the cannon a fraternity tradition with no connection to the stadium or university? What is the connection today? Is the cannon used just to have one? I'm not concerned that other schools have them. There are a lot of traditions that schools similarly have. I don't think Clemson is worried that it has a Tiger as a macot in Death Valley and plays "Hold That Tiger", identical to LSU. That's why I not concerned that we replace the Pepper as our mascot with the Gator. Doesn't matter that Florida has a Gator and The Swamp. Similar to Clemson and LSU, we would be the ONLY two schools with both.

I expect most schools that use a cannon do it through their ROTC, or similar, just like we will.

Mostly, I do not like a cannon! Who uses them, or how long ago we started using them is of zero concerns to me. If our fans like it, use it.
