Coach John Szefc 2003-2008

I will not make an argument whether or not this is a big loss for the team until I see who the replacement is, but there are some things to consider while analyzing this situation. By no means am I taking anything away from Szefc. He is a college baseball coach, and I am not. But when looking at stats that I believe is essential to our program winning, there was not much improvement during his tenure. We are a mid major school in a mid major conference that must do the little things to be successful. Three stats that I looked at are FLD%, LOB%, and SO%. During Szefc's tenure, our fielding % dropped a little, while our % of runners LOB and % of SO's increased significantly.

Everyone remembers "the play" against Clemson. Does small ball alone win games? No, but it makes things happen. It puts pressure on the defense, and will win games against a dominant pitcher.

Now before you jump my case, remember this is a forum to discuss opinions, and this is mine. Szefc left us for bigger and better things while our program is in the same state as when he arrived.

Good luck at Kansas Coach Szefc. Hopefully we can work out a weekend series year to year.

I think I heard Bab say before he likes where he's at and isnt all that interested in being the recruiting coordinator etc like Scefz and Simenouex before were.

At the very least interview Babb, he certainly deserves it. Would be great to see or hear something soon from Robe on the matter. Could move Chris Domingue to Babbs spot those men work well together.

I think this was inevitable, I figured he would be gobbled up a long time ago.
Now finding a coach with recruiting ties to Florida and the south is going to be interesting. Also, on the Payroll we pay our assistants, living in Lafayette now is not the cheapest. Trying to buy a house in Lafayette Parish is a joke. The real estate market is highway robbery. Once you pay your house note, you a very little for other things.
I have made this statement before, how can this community attract good people when our housing market is so expensive. We all know that buying a house in Houston is better than buying a house in Lafayette.
I only hope we get someone who is willing to sacrifice for the love of the game and UL's baseball program.
