UL assistant baseball coach John Szefc and wife Barbara had their second child early Monday morning. John Michael arrived at Women's and Children's Hospital at 7:20 a.m. and weighed in at eight pounds, five ounces. Less than 12 hours earlier, Szefc was at the Cajun baseball team's first meeting of the spring semester Sunday night at Bourgeois Hall. The source of the story

1. Is there any different sort of approach that they will take to the plate tonight different than last night, other than simply executing?

2. Are they telling the players anything (hitting wise) differently today than yesterday, in order to get them in the proper mindset?

3. and not to soak up all the questions with just mine, but, either leading up to today's game, or before today...Have the coaches all but gone to the players and told them, "Hey, this one's on you guys. We've given you all the information and coaching we can, and have given you the best opurtunity to win (with the lineups and pitching rotation), but we can't win the game for you. If you want to win, go do it, and let us help you regroup for next week. but, if we don't get it done, it will be on your minds and hearts until next year".????

... for the 8th straight year the sportsnote radio show is lucky enough to have a weekly segment with an assistant baseball coach.. once again, John Szefc going into his 6th season with the Cajuns will be joining us to alert all what is going on with the team..

after a few years of his segment being on wednesday's.. we are moving back to our original day of doing his segment on monday's.. i like this as it will enable us to talk about the past weekend's games with the hit's and plays still in our mind and the dirt still in our jocks.. (tee-hee)

today is his 1st at bat (whoaa the cliches are striking out, ey? grins) John will be with us at 2:05 for a few minutes as the Cajuns will be on the field getting ready for the opening pitch.. only 11 days away as they will be traveling to San Antonio to take on Army.. and the 1st home game being the following week.. Fri, Feb 29th vs Southern Miss

seriously things can and do get murky when looking back in time.. i came up with the 8 in that i think i had wade on for 2 years.. and this will be john's 6th year with the cajuns.. hence the 8.. if only 1 year with wade before he went to tech then only 7.. and if true.. won't be the first time i would have to apologize for no memory.. i'm just glad i got the ph # right.. (friday's show reference)
