The University of Louisiana athletic department will not contest the four secondary violations handed down by the NCAA in a notice of allegations received Tuesday.
UL interim athletic director David Walker said in a university release that the department agrees with the facts in the allegations and will not request a hearing before the NCAA's Committee on Infractions. Resolution of the case and assessment of penalties will be done through the NCAA's summary disposition process.
"The university will work in cooperation with the NCAA enforcement staff to prepare the Summary Disposition Report, and the report will then be presented to the Infractions Committee," Walker said in the release. "The university will recommend self-imposed penalties and corrective actions that we feel are appropriate to address the violations."
The university received notice Tuesday of four alleged violations, two each in football and men's basketball. The allegations involve certification of eligibility for former basketball player Orien Greene involving correspondence courses, and improper contact by coaches with football players during summer workouts and illegal awarding of T-shirts for performances in fall games and spring drills.
All are considered secondary violations by the NCAA enforcement staff. The summary disposition process may be used since the university does not fall under the repeat-violator provision.
