If I'm not mistaken the center court logo they are going with at EKL Gym
is going to be based on the old interlocking University of Louisiville logo. . . .
Just playing around with this but here is my fantasy University of Louisiana logo.

It might be because I have grown accustom, I sort of like the interlocking L and U unless they underscore it with Lafayette then I like U-Louisiana.
Isnt UL copyrighted by Louisville? Thought i read that somewhere, so the university pushes either Louisiana or UL-Lafayette..Originally Posted by Turner
You are right about what the University pushes, but not the reason for it.Originally Posted by locoguano
Since the letters UL are so generic, Louisville can't copyright the term. That is probably why they abandoned the logo (which they probably could have copywrited) in the 60's, and why they no longer refer to themselves as UL but rather U of L.
If anyone were to copy write UL the most likely entity would have been Underwriter Laboratories, since their name is on virtually every home/office electrical component the world over.
If the University of Louisiana were to ever start calling themselves just UL full time we would probably hear from Underwriter Laboratories. It's the same reason the University of Nebraska doesn't call itself the UN. Even though Nebraska predates the United Nations the usage is trumped, likewise with UL and Underwriter Labs.
The only way the University of Louisiana can get away with in the broad and long term use of the initials UL is to underscore it with the word Lafayette.
The problem for me with underscoring it is that it gives the false impression that the “L” actually stands for Lafayette. It only a perception true, but it is in fact true. As I have stated many times, initials tell you nothing, so in my opinion you have to go with something that states "Louisiana"
