The 2005-06 season of sports at UL is gonna be so exciting...I have never had this type of anticipation for our sports programs since I graduated from UL! I would like to say thank you Coach! And also thanks to the wonderful people who participate on this message board! Thank you Turbine, Guru, DaddyCajun, Clutch, LXA and everyone else that bleeds Vermillion and White!

Coach we appreciate your comments. The class really looks good on paper, but it will be nice when you guys can parlay this talent into a NCAA appearance. I am curious about you statement concerning comments of signees. It was my understanding that once you have received the letter of intent signed, you could indeed talk about any signed athlete.
In fact, football programs have signing parties and baseball coaches talk about signed athletes at luncheons at the end of the season. Does basketball have different criteria?

Good Question. This is what I was told about all these parties ECT. It is not allowed under NCAA RULES for a COACH to set up a specific announcement of their signees (except a 1 time release of that list). I was told that we could not invite the media to discuss this list. I was going to have a SIGNING UPDATE at Pete's on signing day last Nov. Was told it was against the RULES. I was also told that boosters could organize their own parties and if the Coaches showed up fine ECT. We are always going to play and recruit by the Rules as we are advised. I think it is a GREY AREA and until it is changed we are going to abide by the book. To me, it's not worth the trouble to read about yourself on the front page of the advertiser over something stupid. We are not going to make the UNIVERSITY look bad in any way (if it is in our control). We let the Sports Information Dept. release our list of signees. We can talk about them (just not set up the interview, if that makes sense). And in the Case of BLAIR BRODHEAD (THE ADVERTISER) reported the injury not us and we can't comment on her rehab. Hopefully all this makes sense. Thanks for the Question.

Thanks coach, you can learn something new every year when it comes to NCAA rules and regulations. Here's an Idea that you may consider for next year. If I'm reading your comments correctly, then we(as in UL Alumni) can have a signing day celebration if the University is not officially associated with such an event. We can get a few sponsors, just like football to help with cost and charge a admission fee. The admission fee could be used as a fund raiser or donation to both the men's and womens basketball programs. The coaching staffs could attend this event and comment on the new signees. This event would take place the same day that the university releases the official announcements on the signees, just like football. This is exactly the way the football signning day event takes place. Clearly meets all the criteria that NCAA mandates. If you and coach Lee would be interested in seeing such an event take place, let us know. Some of us on this board would be willing to help organize such an event with some sponsors involved. The football program raises money for their recruiting budget every year from this event.
