Thread: Possible baseball draft picks????

    Default Possible baseball draft picks????

Now that the 2005 baseball season has ended it is time to look at the possible Cajun players that could get drafted....These are they players that "I" think will get drafted in no certain order...

Dallas Morris---3B (Great all around player with great work habits)
John Coker---CF (Will get a look based just on pure speed)
Austin Faught---LHP (Only pitcher on All American list that won all his games)
Kevin Ardion---RHP (Most pro potential on the Cajuns staff)

Please give your thoughts on who might get drafted and why?..Note some of these names may surprise you and you may be surprised at a couple of names that I left off...

Hawke sould get a look being that he has a great eye, good power, and solid defense. He also led that wood bat league he played in over the summer in homeruns.

I also have a hard time believing that Cockrell wont get a look by some pro guys, if for nothing else, his versatility. Decent arm, Good Fielder, and a average batter. If they dont give him a look, their missing out.

  7. Default Faught, Ardoin top Cajun draft prospects

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team may have ended its 2005 season, but several members of the squad will join hundreds of other collegiate and high school players in keeping tabs on today's amateur draft.

Major League Baseball's annual first-year player draft - actually, a conference call among the 30 major league clubs - begins at noon today. Clubs select players in reverse order of their win-loss records from last season, and this year they will do so without regard to league. In past years, the American and National League clubs have alternated picks.

The Arizona Diamondbacks have the No. 1 pick and have four enticing players to choose from: Virginia high school shortstop Justin Upton and a trio of college right-handers - Craig Hansen of St. John's, Wichita State's Mike Pelfrey and Luke Hochevar of Tennessee.

As many as 1,500 players could be selected in the two-day event that includes 50 rounds. Clubs are not required to pick in each round, and approximately 20 rounds are selected on the first day. The remaining rounds begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday.

Players are eligible for selection if they are residents of the U.S., Canada or a U.S. territory, and have never signed a professional contract. High school players must have graduated, collegiate players must have completed at least their junior season or be at least age 21. Junior college players are eligible at any time, and anyone who turns 21 within 45 days of today's date is also eligible.

A player previously drafted who did not sign may be drafted again, as in the case of Cajun pitcher Kevin Ardoin. Ardoin was a 12th-round selection of the Texas Rangers last year but chose to return for his senior season.

Ardoin and mound mate Austin Faught are expected to be the top Cajuns in the draft and head a large group of potential selections. UL had 16 seniors on its 2005 squad that finished with a 48-19 record and completed play Sunday in the NCAA Regional with a loss to Alabama.

In addition, outfielders John McCarthy and Alex Preciado and infielder Jameson Parker are draft-eligible since they are either juniors or have already turned 21.

Don't be surprised if Justin Morgan is not playing pro ball this summer.

We might have some underclassmen get drafted as well. John McCarthy and Josh Landry

That would be oustanding for them, but I dont think either would be drafted high enough to where we would have to fear them leaving. On the other hand, we may have some trouble with our recruits!
