I predicted 7-4 last year also. We really had a legitimate chance to do that. Many games were so close..... so very close.
I need a chance to analyze the schedule again before I make my prediction for this year.
MONROE - It may have been an in-state game, but Bustle and the UL coaching staff received encouragement from a far northern point during the week.
Bustle got a fax message from the Virginia Tech football staff, extending best wishes in Saturday's season finale. The message was signed by Hokie head coach Frank Beamer and all the members of the Tech staff.
"Thinking about you - pulling for you," said Beamer's handwritten note on the type-set message.
Bustle coached at Virginia Tech as an assistant under Beamer from 1987 through 2001 except for one year at South Carolina in 1994.
He was quarterbacks/wide receivers coach from 1987-92 and quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator from 1992 on, and the Hokies played in eight bowl games during that time including a national championship game appearance in the 1999 Sugar Bowl.
OFFICIAL INVITATION: At least one of the New Orleans Bowl's official invitations won't be extended until Tuesday.
Arkansas State claimed one berth in the bowl Saturday with its 31-24 victory at North Texas, but ASU officials asked that bowl personnel not make the official announcement until Tuesday on the Indians' campus.

Great thread. We're definetly on the way up, and being able to show people a Sun Belt Championship trophy/ring will definetly help in what will be tough recruiting this offseason because of the hurricanes.
"The future's so bright that I gotta wear shades." I think that's true for all our major sports now that football has joined the party.
And the number is . . . . 21
8 games into the 5th year of the "Beamer and Bustle" watch the coaches are still in a dead heat, tied with 21 wins apiece.
This thread gets blasted in some quarters becuase some have a hard time grasping how Beamer ended up playing for the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel. A national championship.
That is not the point I am making. Beamer took over a winning program and still struggled the first 6 years. It wasn't till year 7 that he turned the corner and Virginia Tech has never looked back.
WINS after 5 Years:
Bustle-23
Beamer-22
Soon you will see the light, and yes the train will still be in UL's backfield.![]()

If Bustle hasn't got the Cajuns to a bowl game within the next two years he will be gone. Next year is a rebuilding year, although in the Sunbelt anything seems possible. In two years it will be a senior team again. If he doesn't pull it off then...well I don' t see him being around.Originally Posted by Turbine
