I think the plan should (will) be this .

Go out and beat Southern with Hunter Moody on the mound, giving Faught another day of rest. Gone are the days when this program takes pride in a single regional win (not since the Boulanger days). The Cajuns will play to win this regional and save Austin Faught for Sunday. Pecoraro can be used in relief.

The Cajuns will then have Faught available for the first game Sunday, an elimination game against either the #1 team in the country or the #2 seed. That is, the Cajuns will be in a position to exact revenge on the Crimson Tide with Faught on the mound against their #3. Or eliminate the #1 team in the country. Either way, you have a chance to make headlines with your lefty that is 12-0.

After the early win on Sunday, you have the choice to bring back Ardoin or go with Salazar. Maybe Ardoin needs a different situation to get back on track and once again become the pitcher he is. Maybe bring him on in middle relief.

And then for the final game on Monday, you piece together a staff among Cockrell, Glass, Montgomery, Sanders, Schambough, and potentially Ardoin or Salazar depending on who throws Monday. It will not be textbook. But then again nothing is when you are fighting for survival from the loser's bracket. One thing for sure, the Cajuns will need to bring their sticks. And it starts this afternoon against Southern.

Today, I would expect the Jaguars to throw David Bayless (6-2, 5.17) and Damien Givens (5-0, 3.94) (either could start, the other will probably come on in relief). The Cajuns faced Givens earlier this season in Lafayette. The Cajuns pounded him for six hits and five runs (all earned) over 3 2/3 innings. Bayless defeated LSU earlier in the year with Givens closing out the final 2 1/3 innings to gain a save.
